I have taken the previous interest thread into account as well as some PMs and emails I have received and come to the conclusion that there is indeed enough interest to offer another run this year.
Additionally, I have been contacted by several possible run participants about wanting to make sure they can reserve a spot before the run thread is posted and guarantee themselves a spot. I was initially considering an April/May announcement but people have informed my that 'tax time' is not the greatest time for them. To these ends, I am trying to make things fair for all and think I may have a solution. I will open a run thread now and only open half of the available spots up for sale. I will re-open the deposit period later this year when I am closer to beginning the project to fill the remaining slots.
I will not be starting work on these until the Skinnyflex run is completed (at this time, I am looking at a mid-summer start for these, but it all depends on how the remainder of the Skinnyflex run progresses).

For this run, I would be doing a piece for piece copy of the original run sabers and I have ZERO plans to make any new changes. I will just dust off the old machining files and use them. I will offer TPM and AOTC trim packages. The AOTC will not be geared at absolute accuracy, but will be the same base saber as the TPM version with parts to replicate the AOTC look.
These would be empty only and I will not arrange any installs - that will be up to you. Along with this, I would not supply any in-hilt electronics except the recharge port, and the two required switches.
I would supply the blade tip, blade threaded adapter and blade washer. I will not supply the blade tubing, blade film, nor will I offer complete blades (this is to keep shipping costs down).
These would have the same black and red anodizing and overall machine finish on the balance as the original run had.
Price will be $550.00 per saber, plus 3.5% for paypal, plus shipping, with a $275.00 non-refundable deposit due to secure your spot on the list. To make your deposit and secure your spot, please paypal your deposit of $275.00 to sales@orbitalmachining.com. Please send as a payment for goods and make your payment in USD. I have recently had issues with accepting international currency payments and I will refuse and refund any payment not made in US Dollars. Once you have made your deposit, post that fact in this thread so I can see the order that payments have been made and add your name to the list. I will do my best to keep the list updated but please check this thread and count the number of deposits made before you make your deposit to make sure the list is not full. You do not need to make a decision on TPM or AOTC trim levels now - I will ask for that information prior to beginning the run.
Once the list is full, I will then ask that anyone else who is still interested post their interest. When I open the remaining run spots, I will give those who expressed interest advanced notice of when the spots will be available. They will have a short window to get on board before the spots are available to all. I will do my best to accommodate everyone, but this run will still have a limited number of spots.

Sucks the price went up, but it happens. Material cost was probably more than expected.
Still a great price for this hilt, IMO. :D

I have been through all the names on the interest list and not filled all the spots on this run. I have currently, eight (8) spaces open. I am now opening this run to everyone on the forums on a first come, first served basis. The deposit is $275 due to reserve your spot on the list. Contact me first via PM please with your intent and I will give you payment directions and my Paypal address.
I hate to sound cliche, but if you want one of these empty sabers, now is your final chance to get in on this run. The run will not extend over 35 sabers and I have no plans to make extras for sale later.

I can't really say at this point. With the insane increase in sales at TCSS due to the new movie, we are swamped beyond belief. I am working 7 days a week and fit in my run stuff whenever I can. I severely underestimated the work required for the huge skinnyflex run and it is causing my to back up on other projects. Coupled with the shop move, and the second spine surgery, that also put me behind. I am heading into this year with some plans to take care of projects, but I cannot give any time frames right now.
-
Thanks for the update! Spine surgery, yikes! I wish you the best of health moving forward.
-
Again, if anyone wants to sell their spot on this please LMK

I'm also in for one!
If someone is willing to sell of if there's another 2016 run!

What's the status on this?

Yes, but that doesn't mean an update isn't appropriate given the time since the last.

Look at reply # 72 on page 5 for the most recent update from 1/7/16.

Hi Erik

I've been looking at these for a while. I understand they are very limited but I was wondering why they're double the price of a owk hilt? Is there something I'm missing?

there is a LOT you are missing...do some research.
-
Thanks for that but I've done all the research I can and apart from it being movie accurate there's not much else I've found. I was hoping someone might summarise.
-
They are 100% accurate and they re made of steel instead of aluminum.
The quality is off scale on these and they will raise the value by the year!
I just got a place on this run!
I'm really excited about that cause I really like the Obi Wan TPM design, I find it really elegant without being very fancy.
And I do have an alum Parks OWK ep1 saber already!
Wolf
-
smaller quantity, better quality, much more accurate (these things are tiny), designed with a sound board install in mind (this alone is a huge plus just itself with the button design, LED holder etc etc). Picky people will notice the differences from the knurling and size of the knobs and all the other things that make it special (not everyone is "that" picky)
Wolfgeorge is wrong though. They are NOT steel but are indeed AL.
Truthfully only YOU can decide if it is worth the extra cost. To ME it is and I personally would choose this over an OWK 10 times out of 10 if I had to BUT I am really picky.
Now don't get me wrong the OWK is a good saber and is nice but it is just not on the same level as this saber IMO.
I will say that you are bordering on calling his price into question which is against the rules (please read the Trade Federation rules and regs) so keep that in mind.
-
Thanks for the replies. I merely asked why it was double the cost since I couldn't see much of a difference. Admittedly I'm fairly new here. I've been active pretty much every day, searching and reading up on many topics ranging from saber components and installations to differences in versions. I work as an computer analyst so trying to figure out differences comes as part of the package. Unfortunately like many things on this site I'm finding it takes a lot of random searching and asking questions to get to the bottom of something that would ordinarily be a normal question to ask. Actually this saber was one of the first I ever saw from here on YouTube. It looked impressive so it's probably part of the reason I'm here. Since then I've found various iterations of the same hilt by various people. Ive learnt it's the same with other hilts too and there seems to be little easily accessible information for the average person to figure out the differences.
Anyway I don't think I'd see the difference unless they were side by side and I haven't found any pictures or videos which show that yet. I'm sure they're worth the price, I just didn't understand the reasons which is why I asked. I hope that's made things clearer. All the best.
-
10-4, as I said if you are not that picky you will be plenty happy with the other saber and they are readily available where this one is sold out.
You should just word things differently is all. Maybe leave out the part about it being double the price and just ask the differences in them. Again mentioning the double the price makes it sound like you are questioning his pricing whither you are or not.

-
Just wanted to echo Chewy's comments - for those of us who are ultra picky this saber from Ace is a no brainer. You get what you pay for. In this case we are paying for the best representation of this saber ever made and that's what we will get from him.
-
Wow .... I am so sad that I missed the change to buy this master piece ....
-
In one video of the first run someone said it's made of steel.
And since Acerocket sai it's exactly the same as the older one o thought it's made of steel too.
But yes watching other videos looks like it's alum.
I still don't mind.
I really love this saber as much as I love the Graflex and MPP.
I already have this saber, the one I have is made by Parks and I must say it's pretty well build but watching videos and close up photos OM version is much much better.
I only hope I will find a sabersmith to do the electronic installation for me, and a Crustal chamber too to make it unique!

Ace never made them from steel, any video you watched that claimed so, was incorrect or talking about one of the last runs from Parks/Korbanth.

Ace, PM and email incoming. I've sold my spot to ShadyCanuck. This is just taking way too long for me. *shrugs* Everybody have fun with your sabers. No doubt I'll regret this decision when they do get finished, but there you go. :P

Ah gutted I missed out on this. Amazing piece

Frankly I am starting to worry about this and the other runs. I understand life happens and people get busy but it has been a long time since deposits where taken.
-Denzil
-
I realize it has been a while and it is natural to worry or even get frustrated but acerocket is the one person I am not worried about running out on his runs or disappearing. He will complete the runs and everyone will get their sabers. It may take longer than some want it to take but they will get done.
So if your worry is you will get stiffed on the runs and not get your sabers then you need not worry about that. Acerocket is too involved in this industry (machinist for TCSS) to take money and not deliver the goods.
There are not many I would stick my neck out and say that for but he is one of the select few I trust completely and have 0 doubt that things will get done. Yes he has been slowed by several factors, some that I am not at liberty to mention but others that are obvious (TFA explosion), and he is working hard to get caught up.
Frankly I am starting to worry about this and the other runs. I understand life happens and people get busy but it has been a long time since deposits where taken.

The complaints are completely valid.
But with an Acerocket run it is incredibly easy to get your deposit back.
It would probably take you less than 20 minutes to sell your spot on this run to someone else.

Posting for Acerocket
quote author=Acerocket
I will be sending messages to run participants soon (maybe in a week or two) to get each participants options for the run.
As I mentioned in the initial thread, I will be offering TPM or AOTC trim levels and you must pick one or the other. I am not sending parts for you to 'mix and match'.
The TPM version is what can be seen in all the pictures from the previous run...
Machined finish
Steel slug in face of hero blade plug
LED bezels will include 'shaved' real LEDs. I will not offer shine through or blocked, that will be up to the owner to modify.
Knurled brass valve with purple hemi (assuming I can still source the amethyst cabochons)
Holes in pommel cubes
For the AOTC trim package, I am not offering a 100% (or 99% or whatever % you want to call it) version. I am not getting into doing all new parts and models. The AOTC version will be based on the existing TPM files with slight modifications to replicate the AOTC look.
What I am offering is this...
Machined finish only (the AOTC was polished or chromed – that will be to you to do so if you choose)
I will replace the steel slug with a brass slug to give the gold detail. I will not be changing the design to replicate the AOTC emitter face (missing one step)
LED bezels will be solid aluminum with no 'shaved' LEDs. There will be no shine through
Brass valve will be sized as close as posisble the Presta Valve (a bought out item) but will not have knurling. There will also be a brass button plunger as opposed to the clear plunger that went under the purple hemi on the TPM version. There will be no shine through.
Red button will be identical to the TPM version as I am not going to mess with the switch setup to add the washer under the red button.
No holes in pommel cubes.
I will offer three trim packages...
1. TPM package as original sabers were outfitted.
2. AOTC package with brass emitter plug, unknurled brass valve with brass plunger, solid LED bezels, and no holes in pommel cubes.
3. Hybrid package. I will allow a one time 'mix and match' choice where you can mix elements of both sabers if you want. Steel or brass emitter plug, knurled or unknurled brass valve, purple hemi or brass plunger, LED or solid bezels, holes or no holes in pommel cubes.
Once you commit to a trim package, I will not be allowing any changes. It gets too hard to keep track and need to go back and one one or two pieces over after the majority are completed.
You do not need to reply, pm or email me until I contact you. This is just to give you an idea what to expect so you can start thinking about what you would like.
-
OK, with all machine work wrapped up on the Skinnyflex run, I rolled right back into the Obi run. Right now, I have about half of the turning work complete, including most all of the major body sections. I still cannot give a date, but hopefully I can have these completed within the next few months. Obviously I am hesitant to even say 'next few months' given my past track record of back surgeries and kidney stone issues. Been getting decent progress the past few weekends and things are moving along.

Yes, the observant people will realize there are way more than 35 of each part on those pallets. That's because the run total is 64 sabers. I decided when I was running these before, I would do some extra and somehow that became 30 extra. So, as we move along, I am opening 20 more spots for now and there will be a few to be sold after all the run sabers have shipped.
I wouldn't hold my breath for another run of these anytime in the near (or far) future. Now is the time if you are interested.
To get on the list, post your interest in this thread and send me a PM. I will then send you a return PM with deposit instructions and for those who pay their deposit before this Sunday (August 31), I will offer you the chance to pick your trim level options on some of the features as the other run participants are able to. After that point, they will only be TPM trim level as I need to start the parts where this makes a difference.

DO not send unsolicited payments, please PM me first as I asked in the postings where i open spots. There are no more spots right now and the run is closed once again.

I have two parts left to finish machine... I need to mill the shroud pockets, grooves and holes, and I need to cut the pommel cubes from the rings. I will be, hopefully, bagging the parts to ship to the anodizer late this week or next week.
Some questions before people flood my inbox or post here.
Yes, I realize the Skinnyflex run is finished - that does not mean these were 5 minutes from being finished.
No, I do not have a clue when these will be finished. With luck, I think I have about 3 weekends of work to wrap up machining. I do not have any idea on the shipping, anodizing, returning and sorting. And then I need to final assemble and have no idea how long that will take.
No, you cannot make any changes to your options now.
No, there are absolutely no extra spots available right now. I already have a rather lengthy list of interested people. I will need to evaluate how many I have left and see what I will do once all the others have shipped.
No, I do not have anymore Skinnyflex sabers left.

Sounds great Ace! Thanks for the update! Even though it's been a long wait, it'll be worth it. :azn:

Just wondering if anyone is jumping off this build, and if someone, like me, is needed to be a hero and step in?...

I still have a lot of cleanup and assembly work to do (at least a couple weekends worth) before these are ready to ship, but I will start sending private messages regarding shipping addresses, shipping costs and final totals due out soon.
