"DUELING PARTNERS" a JYN Arts Illustration
« on: June 02, 2013, 02:13:36 AM »
Alright... it's been awhile since I've posted any illustrations... I've been busy.

Besides my full time job.... I also teach Animation at the art college and community college... so my semesters have been swamped.

I was able to squeeze this one in.

GreyJedi approached me with this.

He wanted an illustration done of him and his partner (hence the name "Dueling Partners").

His specifics.... him in Starkiller's Jedi Adventurer Robe, his partner in a generic Jedi garb, their lightsabers and colors... poses as such... and locale... in the Room of a Thousand Fountains in the Jedi temple.

Provided is my "build log," if you will showing it's progression.

First is the rough I submitted for approval. Really at this point it's about making sure I get the posing right... once approved... I push on till the end, and nothing else is shown till the reveal:

Here's where it went from there...
The Black and White rendered stage:

And finally onto the final stage... color:

Should be arriving this week.... just in time for a birthday present. :)

Definitely a challenging and fun one to do.

Enjoy. :D

Thanks GJ.... this was a fun one....

I totally forgot about that room in the Jedi Temple... and I liked your idea a lot. What's fun about these is trying to incorporate all of the elements requested in a way that flows well and makes sense.

The end product did this... and I'm just anxious to see what he thinks when he gets it. ;)

@K50.... thanks, my friend... I appreciate it. :D

Thanks guys.

Yeah... it's interesting... because my build logs aren't your typical ones since my service is so different than the normal offerings here.

What people don't get a chance to see are the dozens of scratch thumb nails of poses I do first till I find one that I like. I guess... as quickly as I don't like it I try another one... and since these are all fast rough quick sketches, I make dozens of these.

What is shown for approval is the one that I'm the most happy with... once it gets approved.... the person for whom this is commissioned for doesn't see it till the very end...

Along the way are the different stages of what I do in the traditional medium, with the pencils.... and then onto the digital portion with the computer and the colors.

Here's just a brief "look" at my process.... highlights if you will. I don't show it that often... but I remembered to keep some stuff to show on this thread. :)
