modifications on a Russrep V2 saber
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:53:50 AM »
A friend has a Russ V2 luke saber, abd he wanted it to become a fx saber.
So he sent it to me.
I modified the emitter, leaving room for a 1" blade, and created a custom blade plug to replace the original solid emitter I cut.
Then,I replaced the central chuck under the clamp to gain as room as possible.
The inner diameter was about 19mm,now it's 30 mm
Then I replaced the cone on the back, exactly the same, but hiding charge port with kill key.
the most difficult was the sound,I didn't want to drill the pommel,si I used a groove on the design to integrate sound.
I cut the pommel end, enlarged inside, and created a cap with air channel on the groove.

On the picture(too small on this forum...sorry)
You can see tha saber with blade plug on and off,the cap closed or open, and the old vs new central choke.

Very clean modifications. What is the depth of the blade socket?

I have one of these sitting on the bottom shelf of my display cabinet. Love the small changes you have made so far. I need to see if I can drill out the blade holder on mine as well. I am not sure when Russ is going to get to the blade emitters.

He's working on them right now, not sure if you've seen the link.

Iggy, yes he will do them, quite similar to what I did.
So,it would be easier for you to order directly from Russ himself.

The depth is about 23mm,but could be longer, have to verify on the emitter, depends on the last stepped section.

I made a front for a MR,and the blade socket is a mandrel,you turn,it locks,no small blade,no average retainment,so I think I will make a V2 for me,using same kind of retainment.

Thanks. I know he will do them, and I am subscribed to the thread. I just don't know when. I am on the current Obi Grenade run as well, and have been on that list for the past year. I guess I was just saying that I might do it myself quicker.

I would love to see pictures of the collet or mandrel system of your sabers. I checked your Facebook, and there are many nice pictures, but I don't see any of that mechanism.  :)

my personnal obi will have such a mechanism, but really more complicated.
The luke is the first test of that type, will try other vrsions, would make it for other obis for futur orders.
I made 3 obis for friends, but with standart blade bolt,no collet.

Are you plannign yo make a fx obi from the russ grenade?
t's not easy to make a fx obi from russ or parks pieces...

Yes, I am going to try to make it hold electronics. I have all of the parts except for the grenade and head section. I know it isn't easy, but I really want a more accurate Obi in my collection.  ;D
