No sound from CFX
« on: April 11, 2023, 02:15:43 PM »
Hello there,

So I've come across something very weird. I've installed a CFX and all lights work. Activation works, aux button works as well but there is no sound at all. I have tried 3 different speakers. Reformatting the sd card and reloaded the config. It isn't set on mute. I've reached out for help on the Offical CFX FB page with no luck as well as other people who seem to know CFX with no luck either. This is my last effort to see if anyone can help before replacing the board completly. I appreciate anyone's input. Thank you!

you seem to be missing the channel selector and gain resistor next to the speaker pads
you should have a 100k 0402 resistor there (one pad of it being attached to the brown small capacitor)

you should also check if you have 5V on the capacitor (look at the voltage map in the manual to see the 5.6v and 5V points to check)

Thank you for responding Erv!

Is the channel selector and gain resistor the same thing? If I replace the resistor, will that fix the sound? I tested with a multi-meter and there is for sure power at the pads.

Not a fortune teller here.
Also, despite your pics are blurred, I might see the resistor is a tombstone. If so you don't have to replace it. Hard to see on the pictures, you'll see by yourself

Okay Erv, thanks for your time and input. I’m going  to swap out the board with a new one for this project and see if this board can be fixed after. Appreciate it!

sure, you could also short the resistor too, that should enable the sound too (just lower) to check it's working. Like I said the resistor seems to be here so it can be treated and it's less work than rewiring a new board

Thanks Erv but how do I short a resistor?

put solder or a piece of wire between the 2 pads. It would be neat to confirm if the resistor is there, around, tombstone of whatnot, I can't conclude on the blurry pictures.

Thanks Erv. Even to the naked eye it's hard to see but I do not feel a resistor there. Will try to short it and test the sound that way before I replace the board. Appreciate your help.

I used a magnifier and there is definitely no resistor there. I tried to short it and still not getting any sound at all. I', using a new board. Thanks for your help!

I got it from a friend, I believe he bought from The Custom Saber Shop. It's a V10.3 board. I wouldn't know who to reach out to to fix it
