Anakin AOTC Disassembly Tutorial
By Rath Miran

Well here it is, my first ever tutorial! This will cover the steps necessary to disassemble your Anakin AOTC FX lightsaber in order to view the internals, for whatever reason. I should tell you that my saber comes used, and so is missing some parts, notably the origonal upper screw, but this should not affect the overall disassembly. Sometime in the future I may also include a wiring diagram, if there is a need. I also have a word document of what's below, so pm me if you want it. So, here we go…

For starters I though I would begin with a nice exploded view of the Anakin AOTC for inspiration, and perhaps to scare off the faint of heart!

 (https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00672.jpg&hash=219143b35c67ba5c6a18fd4f85d08d6e69c0b140) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00672.jpg)

You’ll notice the hilt has been reassembled in the background. Again, this view is missing the top of the activation box, but overall this is what you should end up with. So with that done, on to the disassembly of your lightsaber.

To start with, you’ll want to begin by removing the bottom of the hilt just as you would if you were replacing the batteries. Twist the battery cover and remove the lower screw, and then unscrew the lower portion of the hilt. After that you’ll want to remove the top screw as well. It’s one of those triangle ones; I got lucky and loosened it with needle nose pliers. (I snagged this image from Anakin Skywalker’s review for clarity)

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/images/Reviews/anakinAOTC/ani4.jpg) (http://www.fx-sabers.com/images/Reviews/anakinAOTC/ani4.jpg)

After the screws are out the silver portion of the box will come off. From here we’ll move on up the hilt and remove the actual activation switch.

At the back of the lightsaber behind the emitter is the on/off switch. Here you will want to take an xacto knife and pop off the knob and silver accent. Just carefully work your way under them and they should come up, as they aren’t glued. Underneath you will see the screws that need to be removed. The picture below shows the rear plug still in:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00735.jpg&hash=0146d9573a160b69c622caee0ed0780616e949b7) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00735.jpg)

After you get the screws out, the activation switch comes off the hilt and is attached by four wires. Luckily on this model, they just plug into the switch, and thus are quickly removed.

 (https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00727.jpg&hash=8e94ef13a99ab2644385ce6a8c684ec5042e01d4) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00727.jpg)

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00721.jpg&hash=5cbdaccfd3919304093d13f6486460834adfc131)  (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00721.jpg)

The upper screw that was just removed also helps hold the emitter in place, with the other bolt being in front. Just take a 3mm hex driver and this screw will come right out, after which the very heavy emitter can be removed from the saber.

 (https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00728.jpg&hash=d049c7e7d1a5466e59f322545c41b56bf3e16d07) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00728.jpg)

Leaving us with this:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00676.jpg&hash=f0032b9f968a86154d5ae180639d66ef9530bbad) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00676.jpg)

Now we’re getting close! Go ahead and push the two plugs into the saber and get them as flat as possible. I pushed them to the top of the recess and into the corners. Make sure to push the wires down as well. You may now push the upper portion of the hilt up towards the blade and remove it. Go slow, and don’t pinch any wires!!! Now you will be rewarded with this lovely piece:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00713.jpg&hash=6d48fb3295292a873b2e5f0614bc0740f2d8b447) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00713.jpg)

Now all you need to do is remove the four screws that are showing and slide the two halves apart, giving you this:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00712.jpg&hash=f9313bff590191ff98c5cde754d99a456bd1533a) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00712.jpg)

Now you can slide the blade up off the pegs and you’re all done! In this picture you also get a good view of the clash sensor in the blade:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn253%2FBondgoneawol%2FAnakin%2520Tutorial%2FDSC00709.jpg&hash=c80ec75d0810013ea37e6118c2f92182f56b5601) (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n253/Bondgoneawol/Anakin%20Tutorial/DSC00709.jpg)

Now just follow all these steps in reverse order and you’ll have your saber back good as new!

***Here I’m going to include a few notes and additional pictures. I found that this saber is really a joy to take apart and out back together again. It’s simple and straight forward once you know what you’re doing, and unlike the new ones goes back together in a snap, no solder required. The upper hilt is also removable from the control box; you just have to unscrew it. The speaker cover comes off by just prying up the two edges that hold it, but be careful, as they’re brittle and break off easily. This will allow you access to the speaker itself. If enough people want me to I can post a small wiring diagram on all the plugs and where they go if someone really needs to get at them. I’m also throwing in some photos that offer good detail that might come in handy. Hope you all enjoyed this, and May the Force be with you during your repairs!

I know this is an old post, but I used it today because I'm doing a Luxeon conversion. I think it should be stickied.
I'm glad it's here! Great job!

Jasher Kain,

I just won 2 of these on ebay and 1 has no sound so I decided to do a LUX conversion on it with a MR Anakin ROTS internals, if you have any input you can share for the LED holder I would greatly appreciate it.

This is for those of you who have one of these old beauties and would like to convert it to an LED saber (like this!).

For what it's worth, that triangular screw can be neatly removed with a T-10 Torx screwdriver.

For anyone interested, the electronics from the Anakin AOTC will fit into the Prophecy. It's a bit snug, and you have to use a smaller battery pack, but it will work. Oh, and you'll need a different endcap. I went with a Heiland Synchronar's endcap; when the threads are filed down, it fits nicely.  8)

For the wiring~

battery: black and red

switch: blue, sky blue, yellow, green

clash sensor: orange

LED: grey (red and white to positive, black to negative)

Hi, I realise this is an old thread but in for a penny .......

Tried everything on the walkthrough but try as i might i could not get the activation switch off. The taper headed bolt will spin but i'll be damned if it will come out! All i want to do is get the sound working proper;y as it is intermittent at best. Total newbie on here and got this mint from Ebay for £25 due to the dodgy sound but had a feeling it would be an easy fix. Any more help would be appreciated.

Cheers

It sounds like the threads are stripped. But I have to tell you I don't think you'll have much luck with the sound. The sound on the AOTC Anakin is notoriously bad. I spent many hours trying to convert one to a decent Luxeon saber and finally gave up.  :'(

I haven't tried it, but it seems the best thing to do with an AOTC Anakin is to gut it completely and replace the innards with a Force FX Construction Kit (Joe Jedi).

Cheers Matt!

As long as i know it is actually a bolt i can figure out a way of getting it out without wrecking the rest of the hilt. I hope the sound is a simple fix cos it only works depending on what angle you hold the saber at so hopefully it is a loose connection. I'll post again if i have any joy or even if indeed i completely knacker the thing!! If i do bugger it then i have an old Luke ESB hilt sitting here i can rob that my son will quite happily things with regardless of sound or the complete lack thereof.

I too recently scored one of these beautys, in a little hurt condition.
I had to gently straighten the speaker grill, as it had a noticeable dent in it, now its's perfect.

jock109,
With not being able to remove the tapered chrome bolt over the activation switch, have you tried using some ruber to grip it better and keep on screwing it out?
Mine was very tight and didn't want to come out, until I used a rubber strip and fingers around it and out it came.
I had to remove mine to tap a 5mm emitter bolt into the hilt, as the original was loose on arrival and when removed found that it was held in place with grey lock-thread glue, as the previous person had obviously stripped it out.

Something not mentioned above in the dismantling process I came across was that you require removing the Red amd Green fake LEDs, as they go into the plastic guts inside the hilt.
I've replaced these with 4mm Red and Green LEDs that I had lying around.

good luck

Dispel this I must.  It is not necessary to remove these fake LEDs on a standard dis-assembly.  Your hilt may have been an anomaly, but I have converted a large number (more than 10) of these and that has simply never been the case.  I have a feeling that you ran into some more "damage" to the hilt you bought.  I am also not saying that you did not have to remove yours, only that it does not normally have to be done.

cheers for the tip mersenne, i appreciate it. i think i will just cut a slot in it with a hacksaw and remove like a screw then replace it with something else. apologies for the delay in replying but the web filter we have on our network at work doesn't allow access to this site and i just got home today. i was hoping to leave this saber original but hey ho i'll just need to wait for another to come along.

There's really nothing to break. You will have to use some force to pop it out...
...or you could use the Force. :D
