MHS Crystal chamber prototype!

Long story short, i have a week off work, got bored, found a free 3d design program, brainstormed for a few hours on paper, then a few computer design hours later I has this~





A (theroretically) fully 3d printable modular crystal chassis~that is designed to fit into a 3inch MHS peice (again in theroy), and be strong enough to withstand duelling~onlt thing i couldnt do was thread the 2mm holes as the program doesnt have that option~so id have to thread it by hand~

If theres enough interest i may print out a prototype in alumide and stainless steel~

Might be nice with some more detail density and specific mounts for wires and LEDs...

As a matter of fact there are ^^; I just forgot to mention it XD

not totally finished yet~I forgot a few holes XD

the two pillars are actually hollow (4mm internal space) for plenty of wire to go through~the brassy parts have a 8mm (i think) hole to mount a LED or Bezel, i wasnt sure on actual dimensions of the bezels or leds so I thought id leave plenty of room, i could always do up some washers~

That would be awesome if you could actually make those! It would be nice to have k crystal chamber in a moderately priced saber!

I am not sure what he used, but I like 3d Blender, myself. I hear Google has some html based freeware out there too, but I haven't tried it.

Do note that the stainless steel from shapeways does not always print to exact specs. There is some shrinkage / expansion. I had to work on my sidious for a while to get things to fit perfectly after printing.

Looks pretty cool. Not sure how it will look with printed texture though.

I'd like to see it with a third pillar (evenly spaced) that way you would increase both the durability and the aesthetics and still have enough space to fit a crystal in between the pillars for installation.

@Jedi Oz: the software I use is 123d by Autodesk, if you google it it should be there~

@iggy: really?I did not know about the expansion factor~should be interesting~

@keil edge: I shall do that!as soon as I figure how ;)

Update!I went to shapeways and so far all the parts check out for printing~
Also Prices

All parts Alumide~ $60ish
with bronze crystal holders~ $100ish
with bronze pillars~ $80ish

however it will be different ;)

Why?the first one i thought of to be cheap but nice and durable, kinda like the mass produced sabers for the younglings~they didnt customise them with nohing fancy so its be a simple unadorned chamber.

this next one~has a more.."agressive" feel to it ;D

you have my support,as long as make this a reality ;D,alot of these ideas disappear
this is awesome, with this alot of lightsabers will have crystal chambers,so many possibilities and it's a good business opportunity  :D
