My MKVI self upgrade to CFv5
« on: September 04, 2011, 04:36:05 PM »
Updating this thread finally.  I wasn't pleased with how the t8 light tube protector and my double battery pack worked at all.
So... I decided to do a new chassis like MH did.  I pretty much copied what he did, so he gets the credit for the design, but I beefed it up from what he did.  I used my special 1.25" pvc (a cut up 1.25" pvc slip joint) instead of a t8 light tube protector.

So, on with the show.

Specs:
Crystal Focus Saber core v5 (5.3 board, 5.09 firmware)
2x 18500 AW pack at 7.4V and 1500mAh
LEDengin RGGB with G//G @2A and R for a yellow FoC
1.5W kobitone speaker (new premium speaker at TCSS)
Touchplate Activation
Red and Green arrow leds on the control box
Custom pvc chassis by me
High polish finish (anything more would require special equipment)

Soundfonts:
Bespin II
Hero
Rainsizzle
TFU Starkiller
Resblade
ROTJ Legends

Boots and menu sounds all by me.

Glams:

Illuminated

FoC

Blade lit with every light I could find in the room on

FoC same conditions

Blade lit total darkness

FoC same conditions

My sanjuro stand

A few wiring pics (not much to it on this one, so not many wiring and chassis pics)

Thanks for looking guys.  Hopefully you enjoy it.  Updated vid is coming shortly, but for now you can see part of the journey.

update #2

coming soon.

Original build thread first post:

So I just finished, but I wanted to start this thread so I could link pictures as they upload.  As posted above this has a cf5 with FoC( of course), 18500 AW brand batteries, freshly polished (and will be polished again in the morning for the vid... blade is on it's way, ldm didn't have a box big enough so he was kind enough to give me the hilt first so I could have a head start on installing it).  I feel this is my best work to date with the chassis I made (not crystal chamber, but oh well), soldering, and tight space I had to work with.  as I said, pics are uploading and will be linked as they finish.  No, I don't have any from before I took out the petit crouton because I wanted to get right to it.  The install took me about 6 hours with a dinner break and a couple of 5 minute stretch breaks.

This was the mockup of how everything should fit.

Before my special polish...

After my special polish.

I've got a long way to go...

My way of holding the power xtender and keeping the led/heatsink assembly in place while still being able to easily pass wires throug.

all of the wires on the pex.

lots of wires.  and I only have 2 accent leds!

just the control box and speaker now.

dun.

and dunner.

I'd like to thank LDM and Acerocket for the awesome hilt and LDM again for giving me the chance to do this.  The only complaint I have is the killkey that came with the saber was too narrow and didn't kill the power.  Imagine my surprise when the saber beeped when I put the sd card it.  other than that, I am 100% satisfied with the hilt and I will be tough pressed to find a nicer one.  video coming in the morning, I have to polish the hilt again after assembly and I don't want to do it tonight.  I just wanna enjoy the saber right now.  Didn't do any pommel blinkies yet.  I wanna get the sd card squared away with my fonts and boots before I do that.

6 hours is nothing.  sunrider had like 200 or 300 hours in his praxis saber.  6 hours is cake.

EDIT: Just finished the sd card.  Man is this cool... I think you guys are going to like it enough to comment now.  but I'm too tired to do a vid right now.  Morning will come soon enough.

6 hours is cake.

the cake is a lie.
Shinny. Good job !
Still : hot glue on the speaker mount  :-\ Blocks all air to be pumped back and forth and destroys resonance.

6 Hours, it's incredible what you've pulled off,
Crystal chamber or endurance, it's always a tough choice.

That saber looks fantastic, and like Luke Skywalker, You've build that saber yourself.

okay, so I just polished it and I'm making the video.  unfortunately, I'm afraid to touch it now because it is sooo shiny and clean.

EDIT: Just finished the vid, uploading from my phone now, so might take a while.  I did fix the speaker mounting solution before the video, so the saber is nice and loud.

well, you said it.  If it will fit.  those speakers would fit, but I have no way to mount one.  they are taller but skinnier on top and I believe they have soundholes on the top/side.  If I mount it deep enough into the pommel to fit, I will have to cover those holes and I will lose all resonance, effectively wasting the speaker.  My mhs has a similar speaker and so will my ani aotc hilt, so I think I'm good on volume/clarity on those.  With the fonts I'm using on this saber, a regal does just fine.  It stays on hero a lot, but I do switch to show all of the work I did on the boots and play with resblade and such.  I almost sent this cf to be volume hacked since it is pre-july 2011, but since I didn't, I'll keep the speaker I have now.

when I first opened the box and saw the hilt I was both in awe and disbelief.  The hilt was almost too close to the prop, that I didn't even recognize it as a luke hero hilt at first.  I mean, I knew it was and the dimensions and stuff are perfect, but I think it was the size that threw me off. I'm used to watching tiny videos and then blowing them up to fit a huge screen, so the perfect proportions took a few hours to get used to.  If you do get one if there is another run, you won't be disappointed.

What I am trying to say is, you guys can watch the vids and get a good idea of the size and whatnot, but until you hold it in your hand, you won't understand how amazing it is.  This is my first screen accurate saber (graflex doesn't count, too easy) and I can now tell you it won't be my last.
