I've had this in mind for awhile, so when a customer asked for a Mando style Ascend saber with a lot of weathering... I knew it was time.

It's a 6 step process:
1. Powdercoat colours
2. Strip powdercoating in spots
3. Wear and weather edges and scratches
4. Carve battle damage
5. Flat black spray paint and a cloth with paint thinner to wipe off
6. Thinned flat black model paint touch ups
7. Flat clearcoat powdercoat
Then install all the guts. In this case it's a PC 3.5 with Tri-Cree GGW.

I love this so much. :D
Great colours and weathering.

That's fricken cool. Seriously like "run worthy" cool.

Totally. I want one. Please. Pretty please. With a cherry on top?

What a way to start the weekend! Seeing this beauty! I love the weathering! :jedigreen: :jedigreen: :jediblue:
That was one heck of an idea!

Very Epic!!

Awesome execution!
-
Very nice.
Couldn't have turned out better.
-
Jango colors would be cool. ^-^
-
That looks so awesome. I'd personally put some weathered yellow somewhere (perhaps in the body's grooves) to represent Boba's shoulder armor. I'd also put a certain Mandalorian symbol on the lower main body...perhaps acid-etched or something... 8)
Just some potential ideas. Never know what the future may hold. ^-^

Amazing!!!!!

Thanks everyone.

Thought about that, but I didn't want it to be too obviously Boba Fett like. The colours are not exact anyways.
As for a run, not really possible as each saber's battle damage would be different. It's done with various dremmel tools and hand files. But I will be open to doing others similar to this when things slow down.

seconded, and funny.

Awesome weathering job, Rob!
-
I really like the red and green together and the weathering is just right. It's an everyday used look and not over done. I hope to see more green used like that in the future!

Great job Rob.

Great job Rob.
I'm talking about a little more yellow. :P
But it's all good. The saber looks awesome as it is. ^-^

Wow! What a great looking hilt, I may have to keep this style in mind for a future build from you guys:)
-
Mate, hats off that is seriously good. Great technique.
-
love that so much

Rob es numero uno

That's just beautiful, Rob. You nailed it. I wish I had half the skill you do. xD
-
Awesome!
I was always in love with Boba's armor since decades - and you definitely nailed that look!
But - browsing through the photobucket portfolio, I found an almost identical saber (apart from the shape of the emitter) with a black and silver color scheme. That one's really beautiful, too. Is it the same saber before changing the look, or just a different version?

Hi,
You're probably seeing the stock Ascend. It's my first production model, and the base for the Fett style scheme.
-
That's awesome, can't wait for mine to come back from being repaired.
-
Great paint scheme and weathering.
