making Aayla Secura
« on: August 05, 2013, 09:30:59 PM »
Making an Aayla SEcura outfit for my daughter to wear to Cons and Halloween this year.
Started early, because I wasn't sure what I was getting myself in for.
Ordered latex lekku from Twi'lek Paradise out of Spain (find them on facebook).
Made the leather hat/headress and the belt greeblies from upolstery vinyl (same stuff as the 'DIY boots' thread).
Also made the one-sleeved leather halter top (not shown), to go over the brown one-armed shirt (shown).
And I got her some leather jedi boots with straps at the ankles (just retail boots 'as is' no modifications needed).

CAn't do the full reveal until she wears it out in public to the local Con in september,
but here are some teaser shots, to show what I've got so far:

blue latex lekku

leather bandana with ear flaps

cut holes in ear flaps to insert the ear cones

2 center straps over the head from front to back

criss-cross straps on each tentacle

here is the finished head dress

leather skirt-greeblie on front and rear of jedi belt

blue shirt replaces body paint.  will paint her face and neck.

that's about as far as I've gotten.  still have to figure out the animal print on the sleeves; experiment with spirit gum and blue face paints; etc
(most likely will use blue powder "eye shadow" across the entire face -- like the kind reminiscent of Marylin Monroe -- my sister-in-law used shimmering blue eye shadow as body paint for her "avatar" costume and it was fantastic).

Looking great so far Wedge!  I almost ordered a set of Lekku from Pam last year but I need to do a lot of Zumba before doing that costume :'(.  Keep us posted.  I look forward to seeing it again all finished :).

This is really slick.  I like the work you've done; keep it up!  I've never thought much about the Secura costume, so when you posted the Lekku, I was like, "That looks nice."  Then you added the straps, and it popped.  I didn't know what was missing, but once it was there, it seemed obvious.

Good work.

Not gonna lie, I like the costumes as much as I like the sabers. This is an awesome get up. One of my favorite characters (sad she doesnt have a clan saber though).

Good call on the t shirt. When you said it was for your daughter I was like...

...

But that is a great idea. I will be interested to see how well the face paint matches the tee. Keep us posted!

Ooooh.... so cool!!!!

Nice costume build. :)

Loving the headpiece.... and smart move with the blue shirt. :D

Can't wait to see the final costume. This is going to knock people's socks off at the con, I'm sure. :)

No Aayla saber, unfortunately.   :-\ For now she's wearing a sort of obi-wan-style hilt on her belt, with a blue MR anakin FX in hand. (be safe be seen).
