What the,….. a CLEAR lightsaber!
This started out as one of those, “Hey, can I do this?” kinda things and then as we started thinking about it, we were able to justify making it. This will be a concept piece at the BabelCon Convention to show people what all goes into making a lightsaber. That’s the only excuse I was able to come up with. Honestly, we just thought it would be cool to make a clear lightsaber.
It’s a project we’ve been working on for a while. Most of the time was spent hunting down parts. It’s pretty hard finding small pieces of 1.5” and 1.25” @ 1/4” thick in small quantities.
The hilt is 1.5” clear Poly-C tubing with an ID of 1.25”
The LED/Blade Holder is a 1.25” clear Poly-C tube with an ID of 1”
The inner chassis is clear poly-C disks cemented on a ¼” poly-C Tube.
The soundboard is an Anakin HFX board supplying power to 5 accent LEDs and 1 LUX III Blue LED.
We were even able to find some Clear Poly-C 8/32 screws!
Gracious thanks again to Darth Tyranus and Qui-Gon Jinn for helping with the “how-to” on wiring accents. ;)
It is surprisingly durable and can easily handle light dueling, though it does scuff up pretty easy, …so we’re gonna hold off on all that until after the convention.
It is also not as loud as I would like it, but I think it has to do with either no resonance chamber, or the lack of a metal housing.
Anyways, here are the pictures and a video, feel free to ask questions. The Accent LEDs are superbrights from allelectronics, so trying to get clear shots of them were pretty tough, sorry for the contrast.
And a video, ......or two.
