I'm so happy the hobby has expanded in my hometown.

@Clark: Guess that BBQ you're planning is turning into a block party with all these people!
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 08, 2012, 09:03:48 AM
hehehe, block party, hehehehe, well, im not going to feed everyone, only people with sabers can eat, those without sabers, not allowed to come. hahahaha.

i gotta get myself on one of these runs when a new one opens.  unless i can sneek in a spot. i would love to have one of those amazing custom sabers.

Ya wow there are quite a few of us. Yes, i'm done school and currently working with my father in brampton. Good news however, I have been accepted into Law school :), so far Manitoba, Dalhousie, Calgary, and waitlisted at Windsor. Still waiting on a few school in Ontario including Western and, Osgoode.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 08, 2012, 12:04:36 PM
i heard Dalhousie is a good school. i dont know much about Manitoba or Calgary. Western is ok, thats a party school though.

what, no U of T?  i went to U of T, got my BSC.   of course im not doing anything with it now. i work in accounts recievable. what a waste of money, hahahahaha.

who is paying for your student loans?  its gonna be pretty hefty i bet. they keep raising the prices all the time. i am so glad i paid off my student loans.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Smokiewan on May 08, 2012, 11:09:36 PM
Oi! Student loans....

Thanks for the illusion of a future PLUS debt!
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 09, 2012, 05:28:15 AM
i know  a few friends of mine that are still paying off their student loans. and they told me at the rate they are going, they wont be able to fully pay it off (including interest) until they are about 45 years old. and they are all in their early 30s.

if you can, try not to live on campas, live at home, that will save you at least 10 grand a year.  living on residence is killer man. thats what kills you.

luckily, i lived close to U of T at the time. so i didnt have that problem. saved myself 10 grand a year.

can you imagine, after you finish school, you have this huge xxx debt.   nothing worse than finding your first job and getting paid but you cant keep any of the money. it all goes to your studen loans.

my wife and i got an RESP (a savings plan for our sons education, so when he goes to school, tuition will be paid for). so when he graduates, he will have no student loans. his first paycheque will go directly in his pockets.

i wish my parents thought of that   :(

Post by: greco18 on May 09, 2012, 01:11:50 PM
Luckily my parents are paying for all of my schooling :). I did not apply to uoft because I dont really want to commute downtown every day and my rents said they wouldnt pay student housing if I were somewhat local. I am very thankful that I will not have any debts when I graduate though. I have a few friends who are getting killed already just trying to pay for their undergrad. Graduate school, if one wants to be a Lawyer in Canada will cost 60-95 thousand, and probably 200 thousand if you want to be a doctor. So, better plan for that! lol. Not to mention an undergrad degree at a local school like York or UofT will probably cost 35 thousand after 4 years. More subsidizing please...
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 09, 2012, 01:20:28 PM
yup, i know all about it. thats why we are doing Evan's RESPs right now.  and he isnt even 2 years old yet, hahahaha.

we are throwing in $100 every month. so by the time he is 18, he should have a couple of bucks in there.  also, the government matches your contribution. so you get what you put in, and more.  oh, and plus the interest too.

that little fart better go to school man, cause we are putting a lot of money away for him. hahahahaha.

i think if they chose not to go to school, you can transfer the money into an RRSP. so it doesnt all go to waste. but i think the government take back the contribution part.  which is understandable.

good for you man, you have smart parents. good to hear.

Sounds like an idea, i may need to look into the RESP idea for my daughter's future. I skipped college/university myself went straight into working for Bell Canada at 18 (i'm 27 now). But there isn't much flex or opportunities for youths to just opt to go straight into the work force anymore... which is unfortunate. I just couldn't see myself spending 5-10 years and paying the same amount i would for a house over the course of 20-30 years on tuition etc. Most companies have their own training courses etc once your accepted... Which kind of negates the whole school experience. Just my own opinion.. Although if you want to be in law or medicine you most definitely can't skip steps. I hope it all works out for you Greco, best of luck!

ok, so you only have once choice of hilts. which one would you pick?

you can only choose one, and it will be your hilt forever. no trades, no returns.

I would choose the Adi Gallia. i think that is one of the coolest looking hilts. with that bar graph. so cool.

you guys?

really, it comes in all black?  i never seen it in all black, only in that gold/silver/beige look. it looks kinda like a bug or something. something organic. but i never seen it in black. do you have a picture. i would love to see it.

i also wonder when they are going to have a Fan Fair with starwars in it. is that coming up anytime soon? does anyone know?

Granted, the difference could be do to the fact that these are collector pieces, but I'm pretty sure both were used in the film. One against Windu, one against Yoda.

alright boys and girls, today i sent my kit fisto saber off to be modified. yup, there are going to be some blinkies, some FoC, some PC, some bad xxx speakers. its going to be amazing. i cant wait.

the Kit Fisto hilt is one of my favorite hilts. so getting the stock Force FX Lightsaber fixed up is going to be great.

so its going to have a PC
Green with Red FoC
lots of blinkies and accent LEDs
a good premium speaker
kill key with recharge port. etc. etc.

ill post some pics onces its done. its going to take a few weeks im guessing.

woo hoooo. i cant wait, im so excited.

a very good buddy of mine Simpi-Gon Sims is going to be the mad scientist behind the curtain.

First off, it's TINY.  Secondly, there is really no good way to insert a blade into that hilt.  That's why it tends to get left alone.  The dimensions just aren't feasible to hold a blade and still keep the proper look to the hilt.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 14, 2012, 05:33:05 AM
wow, its that why eh?  hmmmm, is it smaller than a Yoda?  Yoda's saber is pretty small too. i guess you cant use a big soundcard. maybe a stock MR or maybe an Igniter. Igniters are small.

yeah, too small to work with, no room. but that is a challenge.

Post by: Clark Kent on May 16, 2012, 06:16:22 AM
so Janmizzle and i are going to get together this weekend and are going to work on wrapping project. we are going to pimp out some of our sabers by wrapping them up in leather (aligator, snake) and tying them up with leather lace/string.

give it that old republic look. its going to be a first time for the both of us so hopefully it turns out well.

if it looks good, we will post some pictures. if not, well, i guess we wont. hahahaha.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: ag3nt4877 on May 16, 2012, 06:34:03 AM
Please post pics ... I've wanted to wrap mine as well .. Just don't know what would look nice ... Guess you just need try and see
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 16, 2012, 06:42:19 AM
there are a few ideas we have in mind. we can use the lace and just keep going around and around. give it that sword look. very cool. or use the leather sheets and wrap it around and then use the lace to make like a criss cross motion to tie it up. give it that cool Barbarian look  :P

we will see. its a work in progress.

hahaha, and if it looks crappy, we might not post picks because we will eventually take it apart and try try again.

I use 1/8" chrome auto trim to add character to my sabers. You can pick up a roll of it at Crappy Tire for dirt cheap.

Check out the bottom three. All of them have trim on it.

hey Smokiewan,

you know where i can get a 7/8 clear blade with cellophane and pointed mirror tip?  i wanted to buy one from VV but they dont have clear.

reason why i need a 7/8 is because some of my sabers dont take a 1" blade. too tight.

cheers.

dude, the wrapping is freakin' amazing. its like i have an entirely new saber. same for janmizzle, his saber looks amazing too. we did two of his, one with a crystal chamber and one was a sink tube that now looks like a nocturne armny hilt.  talk about night and day, it doesnt even look like the same saber.

i dont have a photobucket account but i guess i can just email you guys the pics.

about the dooku pommel. hmmm, the only thing i can think of is to see if you can get an extra part off someone or somewhere.

anyone know about replacing the dooku pommel?  anyone, anyone?

**edited for language**
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: greco18 on May 21, 2012, 07:47:08 PM
Sounds amazing man can't wait to see them!

I haven't bought the dooku saber yet, I am wondering if you guys think it's worth buying in this condition for 150. Maybe some chrome touch up will mask it enough? I don't know. I mean it's cheap for a dooku, but I might only get it if I can fix this issue..
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 22, 2012, 05:38:42 AM
ahhh, you didnt buy it yet eh, yeah, then skip it, not worth it. unless you can find a replacement part, i say no go.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: greco18 on May 22, 2012, 05:47:54 AM
you're probably right. I won't end up buying it unless I can find someone who knows it can be fixed.

You have a dooku saber, does that whole piece that is affected by the peeling screw off?
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on May 22, 2012, 05:59:13 AM
yeah, you can unscrew it. its basically the pommel that comes right off.

dont buy it. its not worth it. buy a new one. much better.

dude, you should see my dooku after its been converted, its sooooo nice. Richard did a great job man. i love it.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: greco18 on May 22, 2012, 06:18:00 AM
Ya I will pass, you're right. i would rather spend another 150 for a pristine condition saber. Better an extra 150 then having to sadly look at a worn out pommel for many many years!

I would love to see what Richard did with your dooku, it sounds amazing.

no problem bud, whenever you are free and in the area, let me know.  ill show you the sabers.

also, if you or your friend are interested in the Maul or Luke converted ANH, let me know. i still got them. i just took them off Kijiji cause everyone is low balling me on the price. i got sick and tired of it. so i just cancelled the listing.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: greco18 on May 22, 2012, 06:27:31 AM
Thanks a lot man, sounds good to me.

I know what you mean. It's tough to sell the sabers on kijiji. Have you considered selling them on this site? I might have a box or two that you can use to ship them in. I have those long boxes that can fit it with a blade. Anyway, you can probably get 150 for your luke on this site since it's converted. What is the make of your Maul saber again? Is it MR or hasbro? And it's stock right?

what's up guys? Is anyone here looking to buy some Master Replicas fx sabers? I have about 4 that I might be getting rid of. Clark already has first dibs on my yoda. The others for sale are Anakin AOTC, Anakin ROTS, Mace (forget which episode I can check later), and maybe Luke ROTJ. They will only be for local pick up/meet up. Message if interested and I can send pics or whatever. They all come with stands.

Ps. Not sure if I'm allowed to suggest this here.. apologies if i'm breaking protocol.

wooo hooo, so you did buy them, nice, very nice.

yeah, would love to buy the Yoda off you.  hey, this way, you can come over and check out my colleciton.  i still have a few that are on their way to my place, so its not totally complete, but you can at least see the newer ones that you havent seen before.

good job on the purchase bro. hope to see you soon.  :D
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: greco18 on June 09, 2012, 03:31:57 PM
Yes i bought them. Was a long and brutal drive to windsor but it was well worth it in the end. The lightsabers are all in good to very good condition except for the anakin aotc which isn't too good. I am hoping to sell it to someone for 40-50 dollars. However, I can't complain. The two maul sabers alone would cost me about 225+ so i'm happy.

So you want the Yoda for sure? I have to get my hands on some AAA batteries and pop them in to see if the sound and LEDs work ok. The yoda is the only one I haven't tested so far but the hilt is probably 9/9.5 out of 10 in my opinion. I will let you know, probably tomorrow, whether its in perfect working condition, and we can arrange for a time and price.

sounds good bud, thanks for thinking of me when you got the sabers. i really appreciate it.

bro, i was thinking, why dont you send in the Anakin AOTC for conversion. have someone put a crystal chamber in it, a nice PC 2.0, even an Igniter. it would be a great conversion. what do you think?  if not, let me take a look at it. i might send it in to someone to convert.

sure, let me know when you are free, ill get some cash so i can be prepared for your visit.

see you soon bud.

I was thinking about converting the anakin as well. I will bring it by your house to show you the condition but I am willing to let it go for cheap. I'm available Tuesday night if you are, I can drop by. I will be converting a mace saber soon because now I have two of them..

I was thinking of buying the starkiller in this bunch.. what does everyone think? Is it a good one for a good price? I'm still not that knowledgeable about custom sabers.

sure, come by tuesday, but email me ahead of time, just so i remember. you know me, ill forget my head on my shoulders if it wasnt attached to me.

i do like that starkiller. it is very nice. ask him for a video and some pics of it being on.  the price is pretty good. i mean its not inexpensive but not cheap. i like it. you know i have always liked the starkiller hilt.

Here's the video :

He goes through all the sabers he is selling. It's the second one he shows. The only thing that's bugging me is that it is missing the bronzeish colour at the base of the hilt and tip. It is still nice though.

I'll email you tuesday to confirm.

hung out a bit with greco18. we had a good time. showed him some of my sabers, talked about future purchases, it was fun.

i also showed him my new saber case. its not complete yet but it looks really sick. it is an aluminum case with pluck and pick foam inside of it. the foam doesnt fit very well to be honest, i might buy more foam, a bigger size. but other than that, it looks very james bond-ish.

i also showed him one of my sabers i wrapped up with leather and lace. it really looks very general kota like.  we are going to set up a date where janmizzle, greco18 and myself are going to get together in the back yard and practice our swinging.

see you all soon guys. lets talk about getting together again.

i just want to remind all the fathers out there about how crappy fathers day was when you had to get up at 4:30 am when your son wont fall back to sleep. so guess who had to stay up with him and play around the house.  yup, you got it. guilty as charged. i was up since 4:30 am with the little prince playing with Buzz Lightyear and Woody. he likes Buzz, so i was the cowboy.  ;)

Happy Canada Day all,

so my deck is finally finished, it took a lot of work but its finally done.

Janmizzle came over, we practiced our saber swings and he showed me a few new movies. i am much better at swinging my sabers now.

we also wrapped up one of my older sabers and it looks really cool now. its like an old republic style saber. we even put a crystal in one of the windowed LEDs and it looks like it has a crystal chamber inside.

anyways, i hope you all have a happy Canada Day.

Hey Guys,

so a while ago, Janmizzle and i got together and started wrapping some our sabers
with leather wrap we bought off eBay. and some of you guys wanted to see how it looked like.

so here are some before and after pictures of what i did.
sorry it took so long. i should have done this months and months ago  :P

before:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1261.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fii581%2FClark_K%2FRebirth%2FMakotoRebirth12.jpg&hash=584e18d4e7d81f93100d0925b8fa755f65b0f41d)

after:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1261.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fii581%2FClark_K%2FRebirth%2Fth_Rebirth.jpg&hash=d65433f7551d25e5631c06e97c5ddaf3724b9d42) (http://s1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii581/Clark_K/Rebirth/?action=view&current=Rebirth.jpg)

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1261.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fii581%2FClark_K%2FRebirth%2Fth_Rebirth2.jpg&hash=445746e3bae2f2d24f93968832663b7ce0df958f) (http://s1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii581/Clark_K/Rebirth/?action=view&current=Rebirth2.jpg)

i also want to give big up props to Simpi-Gon Sims.
this was a broken Makoto i had and he was able to fix it back up
and put in all the LEDs and copper parts in it.
not to mention the guts inside. it has the same Makoto board
and it was very hard to work with due to how slim the hilt is.

so huge thank you to Simpi-Gon Sims.
he was able to bring this saber back to life.
hence i call it my Makoto "Rebirth"

Show you some cool stuff, like the Yoda graflex, OM Obi, Madcows corran horn, an MH LS6, and some of my own secret stuff im working on. I am leaving for vacation next week to Kawartha - Thanet lake. Then to TO, Vaughan, Gilford and peterborough the week after to visit family so i will be super busy, but time permitting i will def be in touch. If this falls through, possibly in the near future i will have a day or so, seeing as i have no one to share some of these wonderful creations with other than the good people here on the forums and my 3 year old. I think it's time to meet some fellow enthusiasts in person.

Hope all fellow canadian saber enthusiasts are well

just hung out with Greco18. we had a good time, talked sabers, etc.etc.

he agreed that i should buy this for my sabers:

http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/productAlternative/?partNumber=20206533

so ill probably go soon to get one and put it up on my wall. then add some lights in there and bam, a nice wall unit for my sabers.

for sure ill post some pics when its done.

i would post pics right now of my wall but i am missing a few sabers, im getting them upgraded at the moment, but once they all come back, you will get pics. i promse   ;D

thanks again Greco18 for coming over and hanging out, it was fun. unfortunately, he is going away to Law School soon so i wont be able to see him again until Feb. 2013.  good luck in school bud. ill always be here to chat with you on line.

cheers.

hey Mike, did you get to go to Fan Expo?  i heard it was pretty busy and they stopped letting people in. even thouse who already had tickets, and worse, those who came out for smokes were not allowed back in.

that sounds crazy.

Ya they were turning away people who even bought tickets in advance. I stood in line for an hour and a half to get to the front and be told that they were at capacity. Biggest waste of a day and 20 dollar parking.

Hey guys.

Sorry to hear about the expo bombing on ya. After last year's lack lusterness, I chose not to go. Instead, I chose to buy a saber. My first CF ;D ;D ;D!

Until the expo has something worth going for, I'm out. Really too much hassle, especially since I'm in Cambridge.

How is everyone anyway? (Besides the expoop let down) I haven't really been around too much. Just random check-ins from time to time.
Title: Re: Toronto Saber Guild
Post by: Clark Kent on August 27, 2012, 01:04:11 PM
how come Smokes?  why the random check-ins?  it has been a while since we heard from you  :(

how come Smokes?  why the random check-ins?  it has been a while since we heard from you  :(

I must apologize for my absence. I've been working so much lately, that I rarely have down time to tag the forum wall. I'm trying to change that though.

As for the expo last year ruining any want to go this year... I just found that it wasn't what I had hoped it would be. I've been to expo shows out west, and let me tell you, the difference is uncanny.

Our expo is a soft white light bulb. Expos out west and south of the border are a series of LEDengins, shimmering away like Vegas. The pomp and circumstance is what's missing. Lasers, neon, smoke and mirrors...  I feel like our expo is like licking drywall. Absolutely flavourless.

Sure, if I had more interest in the art of the comic I don't follow, or Lance Hendericksen's raspy voice describing who Bishop was down inside, I might have had better times. But the standing in lines and now (from what you're telling me) anti-smoking reentry are enough to take away what good I would have derived from that day.

So yeah, I told myself to forget it, score an awesome CF saber instead. Found here--> http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=37207.0 (http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=37207.0)
Once I get this baby, I'm going to write Ice an honest review and, hopefully, get back in the swing of things. I'm also thinking I'm going to sell some US stunt sabers(Gripz, Red, and Billy see below). Billy is the only one staying customized. Those will be going up soon, and I'll deliver to us TSG to save the shipping.

Anyhoo, take care folks. See you around the water cooler.

Janmizzle came over yesterday, he saw my new sabers and my new wall. of course he was jealous, hahahahaha. we had a great time. he showed me some new moves on how to spin my sabers. he is really good. he knows how to use the staff really well, and we were also practicing using two sabers at a time. its really hard, especially when i never use my left hand for anything. i hit myself in the head a few times. it was funny.

i think i gave myself a nick name and called myself the "one armed samurai" because i refused to practice with my left hand, hahahahaha, i only want to use my right hand.

thanks for coming over bud. when i get the rest of my sabers in, im going to head up to your place next. it will be fun.

see you soon bro.

p.s. Janmizzle did take a video of me swinging my sabers but i told him to delete it because i looked super dorky in it, hahahahaha. so Michael, if you are reading this, if you lied and didnt delete it and are going to post it on here, i will kill you, hahahahahaha.

I have the perfect stunt for you Kent, whenever you're ready to order ;)

CK if you want a solid stunt get madcows ascend

ive had mine for a month, month and a half now (i cant recall when i got it, maybe madcow does lol)

I love it though, its solid, well  balanced, handles very very well

ive got the CS upgrade, but im heavily debating getting a second one just a normal stunt for saber practices and what not.

i will shortly, but not right now. i litterally have 7 builds coming back to me.

MKVI by LDM - CF 6 w/ CE
Ki-Adi-Mundi - PC 2.0
PR-G upgrade - PC 2.0
Darth Revan - PC 2.0
VV Starkiller - CF 6 w/ CE
Obi ANH - CF 5
Yoda - PC 2.0

so i think its best that i chill out for a bit. to be honest, i think i have to start selling some sabers. hahahahaha. like seriously. i might have to sell my Dooku or something.

hmmmm, i might have to do that.   ::)

ok, crazy question, who do you guys think has the best saber collection in Canada?  i think it might be Rob (Madcow). if not Rob, then who?

I may be able to toss my hat into the ring :) In all honesty Madcow will probably always have an ever growing collection, and i'm sure his will be the best.

Been away for a while, hopefully my schedule will clear up so i can finish up some saber's that have been on my shelf for almost a year.

How have my fellow Canadians been? Anyone in London? did someone say BBQ? i may have to crash the party. *Points at Clark*

cheers

Correct been quite some time. Life's obligations catches up to one. Hopefully i will be able to remedy that in the near future. I have tons of fam in Toronto.. just tough to get out there as of late. Possibly some time soon i can swing on in, and share some of my stuff with yourself and anyone else that may be in the neighborhood.

Somewhere open and close to major intersections so we know we're not walking into a trap.

I've been using these forums for a few months to learn and ask questions, but didn't know that there was  Toronto specific forum until today!

I live downtown (Little Portugal), and am primarily interested in on-screen lightsabers.  Currently building up a Graflex 2.0 to get some confidence before tackling my Vintage Graflex.  Hoping to order a Romans Obi-wan early next year as a project as I'd like to have all 3 ANH sabers, but I'm not totally pleased w/ the current crop of Vader hilts out there.

I'd love to meet up and share knowledge/skills/etc.
