Mounting and Installation Recommendations.

Soundboard should be mounted/secured to a non metal surface.

Plastic Tubing or sleeving is recommended for lining the inner wall of your saber and or to
surround the board preventing and foreign metals to accidentally come in contact with the
board while power is applied)

A plastic mounting plate/case is recommended for attaching to an internal chassis or by
other means of securing it in the hilt to keep it stationary for proper gesture recognition.

Safety and Precautions:

DO NOT leave batteries in Saber while not in use for long periods that would allow
the batteries to completely drain.
REVERSE VOLTAGE or improper LOW VOLTAGE can damage the electronics.
Only Use the specified batteries and observe all battery precautions.

FOLLOW CHARGING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY FOR LITHIUM ION BATTERIES
ACCORDING TO CHARGER INSTRUCTIONS.

** Photosensitive epilepsy warning.
Photosensitive epilepsy is the name given to epilepsy in which all, or almost all, seizures
are provoked by flashing or flickering light, or some shapes or patterns. Both natural and
artificial light may trigger seizures. Various types of seizure may be triggered by flickering light. [/quote]

These are not much different from the 2.0 and the 2.1.

Also, on the back of the 2.5 is a jumper wire. It was blue on the sample I was given, but it may be a different color.
This wire is not a kill key holder, belt hanger, or a line to secure your board in the hilt.
Do not remove it, cut it, splice it.

Any damage to this jumper line will void your warranty.
The only exception, is if the board arrives from Ultrasabers or TCSS with the wire being damaged.
All returned boards will be subject to inspection and if the jumper line is damaged and the tabs have been soldered the board will be returned to you at your expense. No refund or replacement will be given.

L1  matches The main LED
L2 is the idle flashing LED

When booting up a US 2.5 for the first time the main LED and accent pads may not fire. Go into the menu and complete your set up and it should fire.
This has happened to me on two boards, and it both work fine .

Jango, do you have any spec's on the output of the accent pads?

As far as specific voltage or current output goes?

Nope.
I know that reds and ambers need a resistor, but I still have not needed one with an install, so I have not metered it yet.

Blues, cyans greens whites are fine if they are wired directly.

Also if you are holding the board with "switch pads" pointing up the negative lead for the accent pads is on the left. Same as the main LED

FWIW  I metered my USv2.5 pads at ~1.65V.

Maybe this has been asked before, but couldn't find the answer.

Anyone has a diagram or a picture of the wiring and soldering of the USB v.2,5? I guess it's equal to the USB v. 2.0 but just wanna make sure.

I'm building my first custom MHS saber and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with this soundboard. Would this switch be usable with it?   http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/DPDT-Latching-blue-illuminated-switch-P435.aspx

No,  the Ultrasound 2.5 uses a momentary action switch,  like this one:
http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/DPDT-Momentary-blue-illuminated-switch-P433.aspx

You already have the soundboard,  I hope...they are out of stock,  and may not be produced again.

I don't have the board yet, but I've spoken to a couple people who have spares they'd be willing to sell me  ;D will the US also power a battery indicator? and would I be able to wire these things straight to the board or do I need resistors?

No,  it cannot do a battery power level indicator.

Yeah, that should work fine. Depending on the space, you also could try out the 18650 Li-ion cells they now carry, along with the 7.2V PCB. That way, you will get a longer run time. But they take up quite a bit of space, so it may not be an option. Still, jsut a thought. I would probably go with the Trustfires myself.

The saber would be rather long as you would need to use a 4in double female for the back end to fit a in line 18650 pack.

For a smaller hilt I would go with the 3in DF or a 2in DF, male to male adapter and a 1in DF with an inline 14500 pack.

Okay, so I got my US 2.5 and I have some issues/questions.
It came direct from the manufacturer and without the "jumper wire" mentioned (and that I've seen elsewhere) but it still worked just fine for a while. Now, I only get about five minutes max of runtime before it does one of three things: the sound quits with just an electrical hum but the LED stays on, and the board stops accepting input from either the motion, clash or button (I have to break the circuit with the kill key in a 4.8 NiMH setup to turn it off), or it will reset itself, or it will go lights out and continue to play the idle hum, and then just say "Three. One." and hum some more with no more input.
FWIW, I'm driving a red LED and an AV switch accent on the L2 pad.
What's going on with my board?

Not a clue without seeing the saber.  You could have a short or it could be a defective board.  Have you contacted Jesse Randall?  This is not an Ultrasabers issue as you did not buy the board from them.

I'll do that but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas based on description of symptoms. My communication history with JR has been...sporadic at best.

Could be anything for a poorly charged battery (which I assume you've checked) to a borked board.  As Luminara said, without having the board in hand to rule-out some issues, it's hard to say.

PM MH ...  he's fixed a few of these.

Post by: Darth_Dadderall on May 07, 2010, 06:17:35 PM
OK. I should remark that I'm concerned that I've done something unfortunate to the battery pack, as it only charges for about 1-3 minutes. And if I continue to manipulate the saber, the accent LED on the AV switch does get hella-dark. Perhaps I have a faulty battery pack setup?

(MH?)
Title: Re: Ultrasound 2.5 manual and notes
Post by: Master Jedye on May 07, 2010, 06:20:00 PM
Ok.

Then stop for a second before you do some irreversible damage to your board.  As you know, it takes more than 1-3 minutes to charge.... so something is wrong somewhere.

If you think it has something to do with faulty batteries, it's always best to remove them.

Do you have another battery pack to test?

And yes... MH

:/ Not...exactly. I have a stack of 1.2V 2/3A cells that have to be packed for another project, but they're still unsoldered and virgins. This setup was 4 AA size NiMH in a 2Wx2L setup with wire spacer to break it apart around an AV switch.

Check that pack again, ...undo it, resolder your points, ......something aint right with that pack.

edit:

actually, check your recharge port wiring while you're in the hilt as well, could be a ground fault.

That's kinda where I going with this.
I've asked him to go to GC chat and maybe we can work it though.  He can post the results for posterity after.

Granted this thread is nearly 3 years old, I still didn't want to start a new thread for a simple question.

Is there a need to use a resistor for an Ultrasound 2.5 board?   Correct me on my thinking, but this shows a P4 red setting on the soundcard to put out 1400mA.  Isnt that led supposed to run around 700-800mA?

sorry to re-hash such an old post, but I've had it in my bookmarks for a long time, re-read it and it made me wonder.

hate to revive a dead thread. But im having a problem and I cant seem to find a solution.

Ok so I have an US 2.5.  I wired it up following
Saber project ultrasound 2.5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC5TVEA953o#ws)
It charges, and when I remove the key it boots up and I get the US 2.5 greeting,  but after that I cant get it to turn on.    Theres no shorts, no broken conncetions.   I thought at first my LED was dead (Seoul p4 green)   but if that were the case I would still get the sound letting me know its on.    And the speaker works cause I get the greeting?   Could my switch be broken maybe?

http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/16mm-Anti-Vandal-Momentary-Nickel-Plated-Switch-P471.aspx (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/16mm-Anti-Vandal-Momentary-Nickel-Plated-Switch-P471.aspx) thats the switch i have

I also tried a 2nd momentary switch and same thing.   :/  I dunno what i dd, I hope I didnt break the board

Is there a bridge between the switches?

Try the capacitor across the switch leads mod. One lead on each pad. solder the switch leads on top of the those.

THAT's what I was referring to when I responded earlier.  the 1UF 50v cap (not a resistor).  See if this fixes what was called the "switch-bounce" issue.  If still nothing, it could be the switch leads connection to the board itself that is causing issues.  Check the solder points, make sure you have a good solid connection there.
