well I got bad news that turned into good news (just more work for me). I was almost finished with the grenade section. I had ti turned down, opened up for the chamber, drilled and tapped for the neck etc. All I had to do was part it (I left it long so I could work with it on the machine) and cut grooves in it for the locking since I am going to twist lock it instead of thread it. Well I guess I went a little too fast and the parting tool dug in and before I could back the tool out it had twisted and broke the grenade at the base. I was pretty upset because of all the work I put into it but decided that it gave me the chance to improve on what I had done (I always try to look at the positive of every situation).
Tonight I started over and made a new one but this time it came out better. The raised cogs of the other one were a little bit too thin and they were at 60 degrees. This time I made the cogs thicker but was able to get the thicker groove in the bottom by changing the angle of them and getting them closer to the correct angle (they are not 60 degrees on the prop).
So right now I am at the same point I was when i took pics last time. The grooves are cut and the end hole is drilled and tapped. Tomorrow I will bore it out to the correct size and will not be parting it but just facing it over and over until I get it to the length I need LOL. That was the first time I have had a problem with my parting tool on this machine...oh well it worked out better in the end (if I do not mess this one up).
Tomorrow I will post pics of the broken grenade and of the new improved one.
