Dueling Practice
« on: August 03, 2005, 10:28:27 AM »
I don't know if this is practical but i think its a good idea. A practice dueling staff made of some kind of material that can be hit safely with an fx saber. It could be an extra you could buy from MR you could take turns using it with a friend allowing you to practice your techniques without fear of causing damage to your saber. As i said not sure if this is possible or not but i would appreciate any suggestions you guys have.

I think another FX-Saber is best but if you don't
have two then surely polycarbonate practice tubes
are great but I don't think MR would be into selling
just that unless it was attached to some sort of
replica hilt.

Anyway I need to move this thread into the
Topic for Duelling. ;)

Am i going to have to go out and copyright these things. I think being made a Mod would remove that idea (subtle hint wink wink) LOL.

So if i were duel with someone (fx upon fx) it wouldnt scratch my blade??? i think a PVC pipe rapped in foam from pat catans would be a good idea to be nice soft against your FX, xxx... you could even make it look like those annoying little pike's General Greivous's gaurds use.

no i dont think it would scratch.  polycarbonate is a very strong plastic.  I know because i work in the roofing industry and polycarbonate is extremely resistant to impact.  bear in mind the polycorbonate i am talking about is of honeycomb type construction and therefore stronger than the tube on the FX's.  However light dueling as descirbed in the articles on this sight is unlikely to do any damage to the saber.

Polycarbonite is strong and hard to actually break
or cause to shatter, but it's not mar or scratch resistant.
It will mark the blade but it isn't that bad...
If you clean or plastic polish the blade you will
beable to remove some of the scratches but not
all of them.
Once in regular use for duelling they will always
appear as if they have battled with after many many
duels but like I've said before, don't hit hard and you'll
hardly scratch them at all ;)

always

Mark me down for a few practice sabers. You have no idea how many Hasbro sabers my sons and I have broken during training.
