Title: FREE Raffle for FX-Sabers.com Saber Spin DVD
Post by: Bandit-Jedi on December 01, 2008, 03:09:44 PM
That's right!

I thought I would give away a few DVD's throughout the month of December.

1 per week for 4 weeks.

The drawing for each week will be held on Saturday of that week. (ie. Dec 6, 13, 20 and 27.) And I will be drawing usernames on pieces of paper from my Clone Trooper helmet  :)

All forum members have to do is make ONE post in this thread why they love Star Wars so much.

You only have to post once as entries will be carried over into the next weeks drawing.

Once I draw the name I will contact the member via Private message and make an announcement  in another thread about who won for that week.

Happy Holidays to all and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me in a PM and leave the posts in this thread for entries to make it easy on me....or else I'll treat you like a Tusken Raider.

Good Luck to ALL!!!!

I love Star Wars because there is a clear light side and dark side (or at least there was before the PT started to blur the lines)  ;)

I love star wars, because investing heavily into custom flashlights with sound is the best financial move in this economy.
 ;D ;)

Seriously, I have loved it since I was a kid. I'm still waiting for my Luke ESB jacket to come in the mail.

I love Starwars because of the FORCE and its powers and the different kinds/designs of lightasabers used by each character.  ;)
Someday, I'll have every lightsaber from every Starwars movie, book etc that was ever made   ;D
(Wishful thinking  :P)

I love Star Wars because its awesome as heck. From epically choreographed lightsaber duels to blowing up moon sized space stations. Huge battles on the ground and in the space (Beginning of Epi III, End of IV, and VI come to mind) Good storyline, easy to pick up and watch. Even if some of the lines are incredibly cheesy, the character typically does something to more than make up for it later on.

And because a single Super Star Destroyer could crush the entire Star Trek universe, of course.

I remember watching TV early one morning (around Christmas, in fact). A Star Wars commerical came on...and the minute I saw Darth Vader with that glowing red sword...I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up... ;D  (this was around 1980-81)

I love star wars because because of the good representation of light vs dark....and for a sci-fi movie, its not really that far out of touch with our own reality...of course the force powers and awesome lightsabers helped it along ;D

I honestly don't know why I love Star Wars so much. Ever since I saw it as a kid, I was bit by the bug. I just remember the image of the Star Destroyer flying over head and hearing the lightsaber fire up for the first time giving me goosebumps. From the first appearance of Darth Vader to the animated Clone Wars series I've been hooked. Something about it just so innocent and pure. Heck, I'm even building my own lightsabers now. Who would of thought.  ;)

I like it because it's not just an escape from reality, ...it's a perfect representation of right and wrong. It's practically history.

One of the reasons I love Star Wars, is because it was a far more accessible way to share something with my father as I was growing up. He was into sci-fi, and I never was able to because being a young girl it was rare to find a figure in sci-fi to latch on to, until I saw Princess Leia on screen.

I guess it sounds sappy, but hey its one of my reasons. It brings people together.

So many reasons to love Star Wars. When I was a kid one day I could be a sith taking the galaxy by the dark side of the force, and the next I could be saving it with the light side. Great stories, lessons, just plain cool as xxx and fun too! Yeah, great sound investment at these times in a little aluminum and electronics, Jango lol  ;D

Star Wars is a escape from Reality. All you have to do is sit back and loose yourself in the magic of the wars in the stars ;)

What? We don't have to dish out $$ YAY!! :P

I love SW...because... It's so vast and imaginative... There are so many species, planets, technologies... GAH! I love everything about it both good and bad, Darkness and Light. Good guys and bad guys... It's a part of me in so many ways; in my artworks, fan fictions, dreams, thoughts... Heck, I'd love to wake up and find myself in the Pre TPM Star Wars universe ;D There is too much to mention and it would take all day and a REALLY long post...

Escape from Reality, a place to go when DRL is dishing out the bad mojo. One can use their own creativity and create part of the SW universe where there are empty spots, and in some cases...make themselves a part of it...

*sighs* Most of all... I'd like to hear Darth Maul's voice with my own ears ;D  ;)

I love the SW universe because of its exspanse, varience and colorfulness. Its not always black and white like some stories. There are great characters, plots and events in all the stories, movies and games. That and lightsabers are awesome! :)

I love Star Wars for many reasons.  I was but a very small youngling when my father took me and my mother to see it.  There were many young couples with babies there and I was the quietest one in attendance, EXCEPT for when Darth Vader first appeared.

My Mother still to this day swears that I "Cackled with Glee" when the Dark Lord Took center Screen!

I've been a Star Wars Fan almost since BIRTH, and it holds a magic for me that will ALWAYS endure.  I love Lightsabers, X-Wings, and of Course that bucket of bolts owned by a scruffy looking nerf herder, known as the Falcon.

One thing I found as I grew Older, was that I had an affinity for Japanese Culture, and storytelling, not surprising since George Lucas used a LOT of Japanese cinema and cultural influence in his Space Opera known as Star Wars.  As an adult, I appreciate the subtle nuances that set the atmosphere for the saga, and one thing that stands out to me is that EVERYONE in the Star Wars Universe Has a NAME.  That shows that George Lucas allowed creativity in his art department to shine through. It gives every character a backstory, and a history to bring them to life.

George Has many ties to some of my favorite creative minds in Hollywood; Spielberg, Frank Oz, The Late Great Jim Henson and his legacy.

Not only has created an "Empire" (pun intended) from an Idea scribbled on varies notebooks throughout the 60's and 70's, but he has created a universal entity that fans the world over share and love...

Thank you George!  No matter what people say about you, good or bad, I want to personally thank you one day, because my childhood would have been REALLY boring without your Movies!

So Basically, I love Star Wars, because it is a FAMILY the world over. It is NEVER going to be forgotten, and has become such a pop culture Icon that it has cemented itself into the pages of our history books forever.

Without Star Wars, NONE of us would be on this forum speaking of Lightsabers, and typing a reply to a topic for a Spin Video raflle!

I was 8, and I remember being in my friend's basement next door in the summer of '77, and he was spinning a tale about this movie he'd seen…of how the bad guys turned on huge faucets outside their fortress and stormtroopers rode surfboards and shot laser blasters at the good guys. I was in awe and couldn't wait to see it. Of course, there were no huge faucets or surfboards, but I had forgotten all about that by - oh - about the time the main reactor was shut down on the Tantive IV. I turn 40 next month and my passion hasn't diminished a bit! Star Wars was my childhood. I vividly remember the day I bought both Ben Kenobi and the Jawa, and called my two best friends the minute I was home so they could come over and see them (I'm three feet away from both figures, and the other 80 or so, in the shadow box above my desk).
The simplistic beauty of the story and the timeless themes of good and evil and the conflict between them - they resonated then and they will resonate forever. I often try and picture what the movie industry would be like today if Star Wars had tanked. How many classic favorites would never have been made, and what would be the state of special effects today? Would another movie have come along and accomplished the same? I don't know, but I'm just glad this one did.

Why do I love Star Wars?
Good vs. Evil, Honor vs. Deceit...  lightsabers, blasters, strange vehicles/starships, EPIC Battles, armies of knights wearing deep-hooded cloaks, hidden "cells" of black-clad ominous "dark lords", saber battles, crazy droids... and of course, Leia's golden bikini.   ;D

There are so many reasons to love star wars. I was about 6 years old. I had this strange toy in my toybox. It was a grey figure with what looked like a red magna doodle pen in his back. Im sitting on the floor playing with him when empire strikes back came on. I had never seen the movie before. I was watching the dinner seen with vader and I saw Boba Fett. I had him in my hand, and I freaked out cause I didn't even know where the figure came from. From that point on, instant fan. The individual stories, character development, and all the technology really sets it apart from any saga out there. I have alot of expensive merchandise, some in boxes, mint, lightsabers, and so on, but My Boba Fett figure is my prized possesion still.

My first memory is going to see Star Wars with my father.  That's the last memory I had of him until I met him again at the age of 18.  Funny, it wasn't the last time I saw him, but the only memory I kept until I hunted him down the day I graduated high school.

It was also the first time I saw what it meant to be a strong woman.  In the age of Barbies, when women actually cried if they weren't married by 30, this teeny little thing got two strong men and an even stronger wookie out of a jamb.  I remember thinking that Luke was crazy to call her beautiful, but when I got home, I didn't want to be anyone else when I grew up.  I was 4, and none of that ever left me.

Growing up, I also knew that this was something BIG.  I didn't know why it was big, but I trusted that when the time came I'd understand. Now my best friend and I geek out about the philosophy of the Force.  The day I finally saw the Joseph Campbell interview with Bill Moyers I had my epiphany.  I understand now.  Some people say that this is a way to escape reality, but this is the way that I handle my real life.  What does the Force teach us?  How should we look at a situation?  Light Side, Dark Side, we're all given the same tools, it is how we use them that determines what side we're on.  No side is more powerful than the other, there is no advantage of one philosophy over the other, it is our will, our deeds that speak for us.  What message out there is more powerful than that?

Star Wars is great for me because this was a story that was powerful enough, strong enough, and important enough to wait for me to grow into it.

I love Star Wars because of it's great philosophy, the story and the lightsabers & props ofcourse. The first Star Wars movie I ever saw was the Return Of The Jedi back in 1986 and I remember seeing the Luke's green lightsaber for the first time. Many people started either with A New Hope or with the Phantom Menace, but to me the ending was the beginning. When I was a short kiddo, I didn't dream to be a Jedi, but the opposite. I dreamed to be part of the Empire. Darth Vader, Emperor, Stormtroopers were the things I loved the most. Perhaps because of my older cousin who was focused with the Empire toys and such. The darkside of the force has always been much more intriguing & fascinating to me. So, yeah, it's no accident that I'm the Emperor hahaha  ;D  ;D  ;D. I certainly couldn't ask for more  ;). Nowadays I value the philosophy of Star Wars the most and the great family story of it. It's much more deeper to me than it used to be and very different feeling compared to my childhood. I cannot deny one thing. I love all the props in all Star Wars films, both original & prequel trilogies.

I've loved Star Wars since the young age - I think its the technologies (Droids, Lightsabers) and the way they used it that made it kind of magical. Also the realism of their environment.

I love star wars because when I was a small child seeing them for the first time, it facinated me.  I want to be in the rebellion, fly x-wings and y-wings, a-wings, what ever wing there was in the star wars universe.  As I became older, I loved to research the jedi and sith teachings.  It was fun in my mind to learn about the valley of the dark lords, or the jedi temples.  I remember when I went to disney world one christmas.  there at the MGM area of the park, there they were.  A snow speeder, and an AT-AT.  So bad did I want to climb the legs of that AT-AT and take it around the whole park.  I remember seeing the prop lightsabers in the MGM store as well.  Then Was when I wanted more than anything to lean as much as I could.  the lady at the counter let me hold a ROTJ Luke lightsaber, it was heavyt at the time, for a kid, but I wanted it to turn on and there it would be, that beautiful green light.  To this day, I wish, my parents would have gotten me that replica.  That's why I love star wars, it's one of the only few good links I have to my youth.

I love Star Wars for the mysticism and the message of hope.

In fact, I believe in it so much, I try Jedi mind tricking people all the time.  Most go to jail compliantly, those that don't, I Force choke (My Force powers are so miniscule that I can only Force choke through hand on neck contact)

I love Star Wars because there's nothing to not love about it. Come on, everyone should love Star Wars!

-It has absolutely every genre of story line: horror, comedy, action, romance, etc.

-The ideals behind Jedi and Sith make for the ultimate good and evil, which is another awesome thing.

-Lightsabers are the coolest things ever! I think everyone on this site will agree with that XD

-Call me a little kid, but I have always wanted some kind of super powers... and with the Force... you could do anything, so it's all of the coolest super powers all wrapped into one omnipotent package!  ;D

Ever since I first saw the Original Trilogy on VHS at my grandparent's house, I have loved Star Wars. I'll get or do anything that can help me feel like I live in that universe. Whether it's buying Star Wars LEGOs and building my own battle scenes, playing Star Wars miniatures, roleplaying Star Wars, or just buying an LED lightsaber to whack people with... I would do anything to feel like I was in the Star Wars galaxy.

Oh yeah, btw... have there ever been any discussions on Star Wars LARP? I just saw the movie "Role Models" over the weekend and really want to start a SW LARP hahahaha

I love Star Wars because of the "religious" aspect of the force. The training, the devotion and focus. Ironically, I like the way the PT handled it better than the OT, in that it wasn't black or white. There are all sorts of shades of gray. I always thought (and still do), that to be immensely powerful, to truly know the force, you have to embrace both sides. As with many religions, the Jedi and Sith beliefs limit themselves by avoiding the others' strengths. If you could join them together, no one could stop you...

Almost the same story age and all.  I turn 40 in January and I still have the same love for Star Wars since 77'.

I had to endure all the kids at school talking about SW and showing off their playing cards while I had to convince my mom that this was a movie for kids.  She was very hesistant but finally caved.  The big night came and that afternoon I sprained my ankle while jumping my mini bike.  My mom said if I couldn't walk without a limp we weren't going.  Needless to say from about 3-7 my ankle seemed to be fine.  It wasn't until around 9-9:30 that it started to act up again.  :D :D :D
It was a few months later that I got knicknamed Skywalker since my real name is Luke A. S.  The kids loved my initials.

I was never lucky enough to get the toys.  I only had the trooper blaster from kenner and a poster.  I wasn't until ROTJ that I got all the ships to build and hang motorized from my bedroom ceiling.

Why did I love it then.....?  I was 8 and it was the movie of a lifetime.

Why do I still love it now....?  For one it brings back my childhood and a simpler happier time of childhood innocence.  It also has all the great parts to make it a perfect story.  Good triumphing over evil but more importantly watching how even the most evil of people AKA Vader can see their shortcomings and failures and in the end turn from it and seek redemption.  There are so many memorable and favorite scenes but the one that will always leave the biddest impression was when we heard Anakin utter the words........"Luke...you were right about me.........tell your sister, you were right."   Even at 13 I balled my eyes out when Vader turned and once again became Anakin.

I love Star Wars because of it's uniqueness, which is achieved by real world inspiration, the concepts of the Force, of the Jedi knights, the fighting style... Everything is different yet still manages to seem some watt familiar at the same time... It's a classic of cinema, and a breakthrough for special effects technology...

The characters are the kind you remember, the story is the kind that inspired a rich and full universe written by the fans of the movies, and even better these expanded stories are created and turned to a part of the overall story of Star Wars.

Sorry that's just my two cents.

I've loved Star Wars for as long as I can remember.
My first figure was wise old Ben Kenobi.
My first "FX" lightsaber was the MR RotS Obi Wan.
I've always marveled at the Jedi and the Lightsabers.  I love the philosophical and religious aspects to the "Force".
I love that there are real consequences when one abuses power.  I love the characters. I love the blend of fantasy and sci-fi, and the limitless imagination one can dream up in that Galaxy far, far away.

And... Who doesn't like wookies?  What's NOT to love?!  :D

May the Force be with you... Always.

the best reason that I can think of is because SW acts as a bridge between myself and my autistic son.  children with autism don't even make eye contact as babies, its hard to really get their attention; on the lower end of the autistic spectrum are kids with ADHD, and even they can't really focus. you can imagine what a kid with full blown autism can be like. when SW came along (even just commercials on TV for the special editions, back in the day) he was instantly draw in, would gravitate towards it, and become riveted to the screen.  suddenly we were like "ah-ha!" here's a kid who can't focus on anything but he sits for 2 hours and watches star wars ---> SW revealed a crack in his impenetrable bubble.  and we exploited it for all it was worth. he was flying Larry Holland's Xwing before he could talk. (actually he still can't really talk but whatever. you get the point) --> next thing you know we're doing home-LAN parties using JK1 and he's actually CHATTING in-game.   :o
if it wren't for Star Wars (and especially Star Wars "video games") I think he would probably be even more isolated by his condition than he already is

I love everything sci fi, but especially Star Wars. when I was seven years old and my dad stood in line for a week. cause I said I wanted to see this new movie. The minute I got home I was making a robe out of a towel and a light saber out of a flashlight, and I've been hooked ever since.that was 30 years ago and my wife and kids think I have a problem. then I show them some of the other collections online.and they tend to to just shake their heads. Today though I think I love Star Wars for creating a revolution and changing a world.

Why do I love "Star Wars"?!?!?!?

Is it because it's the ultimate Science Fiction fantasy featuring unforgettable characters that continue to resonate through the world of popular culture to this very day??  Yes!

Is it because of a rabid fan base (of which I'm a proud member of that community) that vicariously lives the adventure through this saga and proudly (albeit sometimes unconsciously) shells out incredible amounts of money to dress like a character and parade themselves through countless events {Star Wars Weekends & Star Wars Celebrations}??  Yes!!

Is it because of a mildly hot June evening* when a six-year old boy walked into a movie theater and two hours later walked out a man spouting his first goatee, yelling like a wookee (with a speech impediment), and wanting a lightsaber??  Yes!!!

Need I say more?

Tim the PokerJedi

*{No, I didn't get to see "Star Wars" on opening day... it hit Cleveland movie theaters 2 weeks later than everyone else... stupid theater owners...}

the best reason that I can think of is because SW acts as a bridge between myself and my autistic son.  children with autism don't even make eye contact as babies, its hard to really get their attention; on the lower end of the autistic spectrum are kids with ADHD, and even they can't really focus. you can imagine what a kid with full blown autism can be like. when SW came along (even just commercials on TV for the special editions, back in the day) he was instantly draw in, would gravitate towards it, and become riveted to the screen.  suddenly we were like "ah-ha!" here's a kid who can't focus on anything but he sits for 2 hours and watches star wars ---> SW revealed a crack in his impenetrable bubble.  and we exploited it for all it was worth. he was flying Larry Holland's Xwing before he could talk. (actually he still can't really talk but whatever. you get the point) --> next thing you know we're doing home-LAN parties using JK1 and he's actually CHATTING in-game.   :o
if it wren't for Star Wars (and especially Star Wars "video games") I think he would probably be even more isolated by his condition than he already is
Wedge,

This is a very cool, inspirational story. So glad that Starwars has been a huge factor as part of your son's development and growing up  ;)
If I wasn't pretending to be a "tough guy" right now, I might have already teared up a bit  :)

You're a good dad  ;D
*salutes*

Hey, I AM a tough guy, and I'm tearing up!  8)

Wedge, you are a great dad, and this was a wonderful story to tell.

Hi.
My name is Jimmy "Darth Raa". Im a 42 year old guy from south of Sweden. I joined Fx-sabers yesterday.
I like Starwars for several reasons. These movies got it all I think. Good side and dark side. Future stuff like blasters and "spaceships" but also old stuff. Even if a light saber is futuristic, the swordplay is not. I love the idea of the force and all the ways its possible for a jedi/sith to use it. I like all the different characters/aliens and the costumes. First time I saw Starwars I was around 10. That is 32 years ago and ever sins I wanted a lightsaber. So now I decided to build myself one! I do have a Fx Yoda light saber wich I use as a bedroom light over my bed. So evry morning/night when I wake up or go to bed I hear this fantastic sound from a lightsaber, saber up or saberdown. Of all weapons ever made, real or fantasy, there are no cooler weapon than a lightsaber!

Hmm why I love Star Wars?  For the lightsaber duels of course!  They are soo awesome!  Granted I know the Ep1-3 have a lot of CG involved, but the big battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan was well done.  Those two practiced for months to perfect that duel.  It also shows the continuing struggle between good vs evil and how easily a good person can fall to evil.  Its a tragic story about Anakin's fall(not knocking you Anakin...lol) and a son trying to undo his father's evil by doing some good.  If I had 3 wishes...one would be a real working lightsaber.(more like several sabers)

There's a thousand reasons to love star wars. One of my favorite things about the OT is the memories with my dad it brings back.

a reason why I love star wars, thinking about being extremely force adept.  To be able to pull down AT-AT's or star destroyer's with your hands, persuading the week minded..  Being a powerful jedi or dark jedi, now that would be a great adventure.

I love Star Wars because it shows that there still can be good in people if they have turned to the dark side. All it can take is a bit of faith and belief to help them see the light.

Oh and because the light saber duels are awesome. Who wouldn't want a light saber.  ;D

I forgot to mention one the best aspects why I love Star Wars. It unites people like nothing else. Like this great family forum that we have here. Without Star Wars and lightsabers we wouldn't be here to enjoy each others company, the stories, reviews and everything that we can come up with. Star Wars has brought lots of good friends to my life and I thank for that  ;)

I remember falling in love with Star Wars when I was about seven or so. I found it interesting how Luke managed to deflect the remote's blaster shots after putting on the Blind Helm. And then Obi-Wan simply said, "You have just taken your first step into a larger world."

Even though I found it hard to follow the story at the time, that was the key moment for me (until I came to appreciate Vader's Sacrifice in ROTJ, and when PT came out. ;))

I love Star Wars because it has everything that good movies need. That is one reason. Other reason is that it is just something unbeliavable cool. It has many morals and wisdom if you think it more thoughtfully. Like the saying: Do or do not, there is no try. That is a good advice for life. Do what you dream of or do not, but do not try to do it, just do it. It is better to do the best you can to achieve your goals, than try some and quit doing it.

Star Wars is eternal for me, because I can again and again find some new wisdoms and teachings from it and maybe try to be wiser myself. Star Wars is more than just movies. It has a deeper message.

Star Wars is part of me, because it was so big deal for me when I was a child and I was a huge fan. It´s a part that nobody can take away from me. It brings me good memories from the golden times, when all the children played together and neighbours were friends with each other. Nowadays everything has changed...people has changed.
