I was thinking about purchasing some for a good Summer read but I'd like to hear what others think about them? Thanks everyone!

Timothy Zahn awsome books and first of the EU books. Its the story that should of been the next trilogy.

yeah, and nothing in TFA directly contradicts the Thrawn books. so they can still be canon in your head ;)

Read  " Outbound Flight" first, it's the prequel to Thrawn Trilogy. I have not read it yet but have it.
Then you have " Choices of One"   I think "Survivors Quest" is after the Trilogy then you have the two other Thrawn books after that.

I have to stop all this work and get back to my library.

All worth your time and great reads.

Respectfully, I have to disagree.  Reading Outbound Flight, Choices of One, and Survivors Quest before the Thrawn Trilogy is kind of like watching the prequels before the original trilogy.  It  just takes some of the mystery you'd get in the first read.

Yea, they are good.

I also recommend these. (MUCH better IMO)

"Darth Plagueis" by James Luceno

"Revenge Of The Sith" by Matthew Stover

"Shadows Of The Empire" by Steve Perry

They're a good read. Not cannon anymore but good stuff nonetheless

They would be my recommendation to anyone to read first in the EU, they are good books and set the stage for pretty much everything else before and after them chronologically.

"Revenge Of The Sith" by Matthew Stover

I will also second this recommendation, probably the best movie adaptation I've ever read.

Sounds good. Thanks everyone! Another question here- what is your all time favorite EU book or Thrawn book?

I see your point  SC.

I was throw in the direction of  " I,Jedi" which I loved and the " Commado" series where very well written.

I have not chose a favorite yet as too many to still read

Timothy Zahn awsome books and first of the EU books. Its the story that should of been the next trilogy.

Actually the first book of the EU was Alan Dean Foster's "Splinter Of The Mind's Eye" in 1978 but I agree the Thrawn Trilogy were awesome books that would have been quite worthy of being the sequel trilogy if they had been filmed at the time...oh well...

Outbound Flight was also important in how it dovetails with KOTOR, Darth Bane, the Thrawn Trilogy and the NJO Vong War to show how despite what everyone believed from the films Palpatine was actually the 'greater-good guy' [not the same as 'nice' good-guy] in SW Galactic history REALPOLITIK and the Rebellion, by destroying the Death Stars which were not coincidentally the only Galactic weapons capable of repelling the Vong invasion, were actually the 'bad guys' responsible for trillions of innocent deaths later due to the shortsighted political naivete and ignorance of the Jedi/Republic [unlike the Sith who were well aware of what was coming for >3000 years BBY and knew what needed to be done to save the Galaxy from it].

Not much wonder that Unca George hated the EU and wanted Disney to destroy it eh - the EU turned SW into REAL SCIENCE FICTION worthy of ADULTS capable of a degree of sophistication of political and philosophical thought rather than being merely dimwitted 'good and evil' fantasy space-opera for 14 years olds and philosophically/politically unsophisticated muggle/sheeple.

Yes it was Onli, i just don't include any of the books from before the original trilogy was finished. As those were not referred to as EU back in the 70's.
