i dont know what to say i have been out of the loop for a week or so and i miss the boat by not seeing the review and i also miss out on the excitement of having to wait for quigons part 2 review.

anyways.  the saber looks very nice, the coupler itself looks well designed (thank god)  a pity about the vader sounds even though we all expected it to be this way.   but as some one else said in the other review thread, most people rate the ESB sounds as the best part about the ESB (myself included).  i guess we are used to recyled sounds what after 5/6 jedi sabers we should be. ;)

i will be picking up the double maul, if i can raise cash from a few of my ebay auctions,  if i dont get it right away, i dont think i will be  too desperate.   if the sounds were unique, it probably would have made me buy one on release, but i will wait till i have enough spare cash instead.

hello

i am selling my Mace ROTS and the luke esb i got from ebay along with my telescope and stuff.   becuase my wife is not working, she is looking after our first toddler, cash is tight.  i decided to sell the mace when i bought an indoor RC helicopter for my toddler to watch,  he loves indoor flying toys and cried the house down when my spinning ufo thing broke.  so i dont use the mace too much,  but it killed me when he was so upset about the ufo, i had to do something.   as for the esb, i was not impressed really, it has a dark spot near the tip, which is either a defect or a dead led, i dont know.  i am hoping to use the money from the sale of the esb & telescope for a maul.  the mace will cover the cost of the RC chopper (which is wicked BTW).

The thing is i can get a maul single pretty cheap, but i would really rather get the double version, becuase of the unique box.

Excellent review Qui-Gon!!! I'd love to get 2 of those sabers. Not matter how the sounds are, those sabers really look great! Simple, or double.

Just wanted to drop in with a quick update. I am back home now (after a 16 hour drive in a 12 passenger van with 7 kids, ugh!) and will be doing some more work on the review. I will be adding some more pictures, and will be doing a side-by-side comparison with the Vader ESB, both single and double bladed.  ;D Also, when we got home, we were plesantly suprised to find a package sitting on our doorstep. It is a brand new Sony DVD-403 Digital Camcorder! This thing can shoot movies in 3MP, 16:9 widescreen and 5.1 surround! Holy CRAP! I can wait to start shooting FX videos! Just gotta figure out how the dang thing works!  ;)

Anyway, stay tuned for the next round of updates!

(Oh btw, thats my eldest son Jake in the picture on the MR blog. He was rather excited to see it there!)

Hey Qui! great review man! what about the sounds...are they Maul TPM-like? or Vaderish....i saw that you said in the conclusion that they were Vader Recycled...but is that just the clash or hums too?

Great review.  The more I see of this the more antsy I get about having one of my own.  The only thing keeping me from ordering one right now is the fact that I'm making a custome lightsaber of my own design.  Can't wait to get it and I'm glad to see how nice it is.  Great pictures too.

Ok, got some info for ya.

I did some testing of the maul and the Vader. I can tell you that the sounds are very similar, but not exact. Now, I am not sure if this is because of the endcap "muffling" the sound a bit, or if it is indeed different. All I can say is that when held side-by-side and powered up, there is certianly a different sound signature. The idle hum is the closest sounding, and the clashes are certianly different in pitch.

Now that I have this new Camcorder, I will try and take a vid of the two side by side do you can see for yourself.
