Gemini Concepts Presents.... Kaminari (AKA Sebastein's Saber)
« on: August 22, 2009, 08:47:20 PM »
Hello Saber land!

Halfway through making his saber, Forum Member Orakka contacted us about a friend of his wanting a saber also.  Something sleek, shiny and with a crystal chamber.

Here's his design...

After the MHS parts were received the first step was to shine them up.  Here's a comparative shot.  The pieces on the left are stock MHS parts.  The pieces on the right were sanded with 2K grit wet sand paper and then polished with Mother's Mag (THE BEST hilt polish on the market  ;) )

Next was the powder coating... the pommel, MHS insert, female adapter, and ribbed extention were all PC'd with Mirror black then "quick cooled" for extra luster.  (a little trick I read about on the PCforums.)

Quick compare...

I'd say that about does it.   ;)

So then it slides over to Chewbacca's bench for the guts.

He installs an Ultrasound 2.1 with a rechargeport/kill key powering a blue P4. The crystal in the chamber was supplied by our good friend, Ri-on Ozryel.  It's connected to a custom built chamber created by Chewie with 2 blue accent led's. The batteries are Synergy1.2v in a custom-made 4 battery pack with speaker holder.  The switch is a guarded momemntary from TCSS.

Something new for me was creating the emitter saftey plug.  I used a tee nut mounted on a 1 inch peice of polyc tubing (an idea I got from Anon on the TCSS forums).

Ready for the Glamour Shots?

And don't forget the video (new video layout ... what do you think?)

Thanks for looking!
Sebastien, thank you and we hope you enjoy it!

Thanks guys.

This is the first saber we made that was STRICTLY MHS, no shroud, no custom peices (on the outside)... so it was kinda weird not having that extra bit of texture, ya know?

I like it! The design was very well done, and with that center section, I REALLY like how the blue LED shines thru. Great job on the build you guys...that dude will LOVE this saber...and the U.S. 2.0 makes it extra rad! (Yes, I STILL say 'rad')

Safety plugs for Bladeholders
« Reply #7 on: August 23, 2009, 11:58:47 AM »
A few people asked about those safety plugs.   So here they are out of the bladeholder...with a description of how to make them.  (These are just the first one's I made... the new one are cleaned up better  ;) )

This started about by cutting a scrap of polyc blade down to 1 inch.  The tee nut is then mounted on top and held there by some 2t epoxy.  I then flipped it over and put in a healthy dose of high temp hot glue.  This helps hold the tee nut and dispurses any light that would come through the opening in the tee nut. For this saber, I had to cut down the polyc even shorter to accomadate this bladeholder.

I used two different tee nuts:

With these, I roll up some steel putty and smooth it around and taper the shaft.  Then I come back and weather it up a little with a sanding flap wheel.  I would imagine that over time...a lightsaber would start to have some kind of carbon build up in and around the emitter.  This is the effect I was going for.

These, I just left as is.

Very nice guys!  I still have yet to make use of that chamber part from TCSS,  but I think I may have to get one in the next order.

And with this... I finally found a use for that bullet-tipped polisher that comes with every polishing kit for dremel.  Works great for getting the Mother's Mag residue out of the slits.  ;)

Glad I never throw anything away.  ::)
