Title: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS
Post by: The Abbot on March 02, 2007, 07:46:59 PM
Before you send what you think is a malfunctioning Force Fx Lightsaber back to the good people at MasterReplicas, please read this list of trouble shooting FAQS and quick fix FAQ`s.

Q: All of a sudden the sound on my force Fx got all staticy is it broken,is there a way to fix..

A: No its not broken, and there is a easy fix. Just remove your battery pack, take out the battery's,then put the battery's back in.
Now put the battery pack back in and you will see you saber is back to normal.

Q: My Darth Maul Fx keeps vigorously turning itself on and off by itself,is it broke.

A: No it is not broke. This happens when the battery's are very low on the Maul and there is not enough power charge coming from the battery's.
To fix simple put in some brand new batterys..

Q: I just received my Force Fx and it has no clash sound,or I have to smash it REAL HARD to generate a clash sound.

A: This is also normal ,the clash sound detectors need to be broken in so to speak.
The more you use the saber the better the clash detection will work,to test to see if they are indeed working smash the hilt against you palm with much force.

Q: There is rattling inside the hilt of my Force Fx,it something loose or broken.

A: Nothing is loose or wrong with your saber, what you are hearing is the motion detectors inside the hilt

Q: Is it OK to mix different brand battery's with my Force FX

A: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
There is no quicker way to burn out a LED in you saber then by using different battery brands together.
ALWAYS only use the same brand,no matter what.
Mixing batters if the WORST thing you can do to your saber almost.

Q: My Mace Windu fx has a red line running down the entire blade,it is defective?

A: No this is normal to ALL the Mace FX.
See there are no purple LEDS in a Mace, the Mace achieves its purple hue by using a Blue LED and a diffuser around the led that is painted red.
What you are seeing if there the diffuser connects, all Maces have it.

Q: My Anakin EP3 has a black dot in the center of the blade,is it a broke LED?

A: NO its is normal, the dot is where the 2 ,32 LED strips meet in the Anakins.

Q: If I look at my Luke ROTJ  real close I can see the spaces between the 64 LEDS,it is a defect.

A: No this is normal due to the inherent way the eye sees green, you are able to see the spaces between the LEDS if you look real close.

Q: I own 2 Anakin EP3s and once if significantly lighter in weight then the other,is the lighter weight one a fake knock off or something.

A: No it is not a fake,it is in fact the first version of the Anakins EP3 FX MR put out, since then they have improved on the design and metals used and the result is a heavier saber.

Q: What battery's can I use to give me the brightest blade possible

A: Hands down the Duracell ultras

Q What is the difference between the Mace EP2 and Mace EP3 FX

A: The sounds on the Mace EP3 are much louder.

Q I just put duracell batterys in my Yoda Fx and it wont turn on (

A: The Yoda Fx will NOT woth with Duracell batters (but will with all other types)

Also, I would like to add that if it seems like your batteries are running low, even though they are brand new, try cleaning the contacts with a regular pencil eraser.

No joke!  I tried this on my kid's Frogster L-Max, and a few other things, and it does work!

Something to put into the database.

I think my Obi Wan's clash sensor is totally gone- no matter how hard i smash it into something, it doesn't work. When i get it converted, Ultra will fix it, right?

Sounds like it may have a bad connection. Did it have problems as new?

I have noticed that from time to time the sensors get "stuck". The sensor is a post and a spring inside the casing 1 goes to grey wire 1 goes to blue. Sometimes the wires can come off the board, or the thin leg (spring side) can jar loose while spinning or dueling, or the spring can stick inside the housing of the sensor.

Ultra should be able to discern the actual problem upon disassembly. Have you contacted him about it?

No, it was working just fine when it was new.

Actually, no i haven't, since it isn't going in for a conversion for a while.

my Yoda works fine with Duracells, i will admit that it takes a while to get the battery pack in the right position to work correctly after i take it out. Dunno why that is, perhaps mine has s slight misalignment with the connectors and just has to be futzed with. But after i get in in the right position it works fine with Duracells.

Hello guys,

New to the saber community!

Got my first ever FX Saber, a Luke Ep4 's! Like the lights but the sound is all static-ky when in motion.

Is it bad/lousy speakers?

Thanks!

Try new batteries. Never mix old and new ones. Also try pressing your finger against the battery pack and swing it around and see if it gets better. If it does then the battery pack is slightly lose in the hilt. IF not then your speaker is shot. It has been known to happen.

Thanks for replyin!

Batteries are new set as I had bad experiences using old and new batteries on RC stuff. ;D

I can feel the battery pack moving but very minute...

However, I suspect its the speaker.

In this case, I can pop into a good electronic shop and get a replacement?

I just got a Luke ANH, and was wondering when I swing it around, there is a creaking noise. Is, this normal or is it just the one that I got?
Title: Re: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS

Welcome to the board and yes it is normal.  It's because the blade holder is weak from what members have said in their reviews.
Title: Re: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS
Post by: darthmorbius on December 07, 2007, 06:17:24 AM
Not so much as weak, but the way it is designed with the cut out section for the blade to shine through the area beteen the Faux"bulb retention" clamp and the hilt body, allows an extra point for the blade to rub.  Thus, creating the creaking noise.

The Anakin ROTS develops a creak after a while too. I believe it is due to the blade holder having so little material holding it in place on the saber.
Title: Re: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS
Post by: Boxster on December 17, 2007, 12:06:34 AM
Holy schnikeys! All FX blades creaks after a while? Since I got my fave Obiwan. I have let it be a 'hangar queen' since. Taking it out for switching on and off few times, swing it around and let it stand behind my tv set with the plastic cover on.

My ANH Luke's blade have slanted on one side quite badly for reasons unknown. I hope someone will make a metal replcaements for the chrome plastic thingy. Maybe that will solve the creaking problem?

This sounds like the problem I have with my Yoda - it's done it from outta the box and I've tried various types of batteries.

If the speaker is goosed is there any way I can fix it?

Um, Hi! Welcome to the forums!

Might I politely ask that posting in red be something used sparingly? It's a little hard to read on the grey background. ;)

The Stock blades on the FX's can have a bit paler color to them from time to time. Have you tried installing fresh batteries in the hilt?

I would recommend a set of Duracell Ultra Digitals, or Energizer Titaniums in it. Sometimes weak batteries can make the saber appear a different color tha normal.

It could also be how your eyes perceive the red spectrum, everyone is a little different in how their eves pick up certain colors, so it may just be how you perceive red light.

Make sure to check the forum rules and regulations topics, read and sign.

Thanks.

Does anyone know of or have a replacement on off switch for the Mace Windu saber?  I received mine with the middle brass piece tarnished, and it looks to have a fingerprint on it.  Thanks.

Actually, you can re-paint the gold parts on the switch for the mace.

Vosk, one of our upstanding members here has actually done this.  I will see if I can find the topic and provide a link.  His results look great.

Please Help!! My MR Luke Saber just stopped working today. I went to turn it on and I only got the lights but no sound. Then a few hours later after trying again this time nothing worked. I tried a couple of sets of new battery's but still nothing. I hardly ever use it and I take very good care of it. Anyone have any thoughts as to what the fix or problem might be? Is there a way to fix this? Does MR have a flat rate fix for these? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and have a question regarding my Luke ESB FX Lightsaber:

It will not power down any more! You have got to unscrew the battery pack to disengage it. Otherwise it is in perfect shape.

Since the both of us have been into a lot of trouble I would like to repair it but have no clue how to do that.

Is anybody able to help me, to explain or show a tutorial?

Many thanks in advance,

DD.

It sounds like the switch actuator has come loose. There is a dis-assembly tutorial located HERE: http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=1043.0

You'll need to read through it well though, because not all of the steps needed are at the beginning.

Oh... And Welcome to the Forums! Please READ and sign the following topic.:

Have fun and enjoy.

I just got my Yoda saber and I am currently using duracell batteries and it works fine! Did MR maybe have an older version that they modified? Because when I read this I was like, "oh no! I am using duracell batteries!". But then I was like "wait a minute, I'm using duracell batteries!". What's up with that?
Title: Re: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS

No, MR never had an "older version" of the Yoda. Any brand of battery works, but E2s are the best.

What's up with what, Doc?

Title: Re: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS

I think that the earlier models of the Yoda FX had some issues with the height of  the cathode on duracell batteries.  There are a few thousandths of an inch difference in length between the energizer and the duracell batteries.

I believe that MR may have changed the construction of the battery pack to accommodate this, because the Yoda saber that I have has no issues with either brand.  The only one issue that I have had was with a cheapo brand from the dollar store being too LONG.

Hello, I'm new here, though I've been poking around the site for a while. I've got a question about my sabers that maybe someone here can answer or point me to the thread its answered in, (I looked but didn't find it)
I've got a MR Anakin ROTS and a MR Vader ESB and I noticed today after playing around with them for the first time in a while today (btw I already put new Energizer lithiums in them) that there is some faint banding on both sabers.  Is this because its been so long since I last used them or is that merely the spaces in between the LEDS? You have to look closely at them to see it. Also I noticed that the Vader is definately not as bright as the Anakin ( I plan on testing out some Duracell Powerpix batteries soon, per the battery thread) I'm thinking that the Vader might not be as bright because red is a softer color than blue is and therefore not as bright in daylight. Thanks for your help!

Hi Acebaur, and Welcome to the FX-Sabers Forums!

What you are seeing on your blades is just the spacing between the LEDs in the blade string.  That combined with the sometimes uneven thickness of the foam diffuser that surrounds the LED ladder inside the blade can make the banding effect that you are seeing.

The Red MR blades are kind of Dull in color, also because of the diffusion method.  Red is by far the least impressive color on a stock FX for this reason.

HELP! i recently got hold of a Mace Windu MR FX off ebay. First of all the guy selling it had basically taken a hack saw to the blade and chopped it off! i knew this had been removed as was bidding on the hilt itself (with electronics intact) but when it arrived and i realsied he had not removed it a la ultrasabers etc it felt like someone had thrown mud at the mona lisa  :'(  philestine! anyway thats not the main issue, i can convert it to Lux fairly easily. the main issue is that it looks like its been kept in a shed or something as the brass detailing has started to get tarnished and dirty, no amount of wiping makes it any shinier. Now before i attempt polish or anything has anyone else had this problem? if so how did you fix it. im nervous as i dont want to take the shine off any more than it all ready has. i would provide photos but it doesnt show up in them and i dont want to upset the Windu enthusiasts by displaying the hack sawed blade.

thanks

I don't own one, but the brass detailing must be the gold paint. I know it eventually comes off, but i don't know if it tarnishes. If you plan on wielding it after it is a LUX, then I wouldn't worry about it. as it will come off eventually. as for cleaning it, i don't know.

I'm new to this site, but ive been looking around for a few month now off and on.

I just bought a used Anakin ROTS saber and when you turn it on, the blade flashes and it keep making the activating noise. Ive tried brand new batteries and it does the same thing. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks alot in advance.

welcome to the forums kaseiryu.

This sounds like a short.

There are several places this can be happening from, so lets start with the easiest. The battery pack.

Take the pack out and make sure the connectors are all clean, peek inside the hilt to and make sure the 3 prongs are clean.  Inspect the pack itself. One of the springs may be loose, or tab may be broken. .

Do you have a similar saber that u can swap the battery packs out  with to see if the pack itself is faulty?

Let's start there, if all is fine with the pack, you may need to check out the switch/power button, but that gonna require you taking the saber apart, ...a little. ;)
Title: Re: Official Force Fx troubleshooting FAQS
Post by: kaseiryu on March 29, 2009, 01:31:44 PM
Thanks for the tips!

Ill try them out and see if any of that helps. I dont have another saber to try switching the pack tho, this is my first. I got it for a really good price. (9.99!) and i knew it had some problems. So i figured if i needed to repair it, it would give me something to do.

If you are certain that the barttery pack is OK, (try holding it tightly in place with the pommel off and use your thumb to press the pack firmly in place), then it might the switch or switch wires.

The Anakin saber, if Im not mistaken, usually uses 2 blue wires from the switch to the board, trace those from the switch to the board and make sure the connections are good. Those 2 wires are pretty thin and easily damaged, especially right at the board.

I removed the blade on my MR construction kit saber (to use it in other sabers) and I was wondering if I put cellophane in the blade (although it already has some sort of material in it) if it would make it brighter?

The stuff which  is normally found in the gift wrap aisle? Then, ...no, not really, ...it'll give the blade a different effect, ...a little more of a coring effect, but not really brighter.
The current material is just the milky white plastic diffuser correct?

Definately not normal. Is it an ANH or ROTJ? Oh, wait it's an ANH...

Take it apart, I have a thread around here labeled Luke ANH blade problems FIXED. Mine did that in one section of the blade, and it was just the quick disconnect being loose. It took me about two hours to get it apart, but I took several breaks. If you need help, the thread I mentioned should be of use.

Boy, isn't *that* the truth.  I got a construction kit on eBay, got it in the mail yesterday, put batteries in it tonight and fired it up.  Very underwhelmed by the light in the blade.  I had to darken the room to see it fully - with the light on, the blade doesn't even show the light out to the tip.

Gonna have to do something about that, I am...

Sounds like a short in the blade's led string to me,  which wold explain why the blade doesn't light up.....could also be a loose connection at the soundboard where the blade plugs in.

Hmmm...would that be difficult to fix?

not really.  You'd just have to take the saber apart,  and if you go that far,  you may as well convert it to  P4 blue instead of the non-functioning led string.

While playing with my sons new Vader saber i notice that after many of the motion sound effect i will get a single static "click" sound at the end of the sound.

Is this normal?

I'm a new to this site. My parents have recently moved into their new house and have most of their stuff out of storage along with some of my stuff. One of them was my MR force fx lightsaber(Anakin ROTS)which i had since about 2009 i believe. It was in box in storage so its in good condition, It's just whenever i turn it on it makes a static like noise from the speaker and the blade doesn't light up. I remember this happening to it in the past and went back to normal. But now i'm not sure if it will work again. I have new duracell ultra batteries in it and is still going staticy. I'm not that technical with them so i wouldn't know how to actually take it apart and look at it internally. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and I have a problem that I desperately need help with. About 4 weeks ago my gf bought me the Hasbro Darth Vader Force FX lightsaber with the removable blade as a birthday gift. It's worked fine up until last night when I put the blade in and tried to turn it on. It'll turn on for a few seconds then just completely turn off, no power down effects of any sort, just completely dead. Has anyone else ever had this problem before/know how to fix this? I was thinking it could possibly be a bad connection but I don't know how to take it apart and I'm afraid of damaging the saber. I've tried taking the batter pack out and putting it back in. I don't have any fresh new batteries to test out yet, I'm really hoping new batteries will solve it because I love this saber and my gf spent her hard earned money on it, it'll be a shame if it's broken so soon :/ If anyone knows what the problem is please help! "You're my only hope.."

Hi, I'm new to the site but I have recently treated myself to a force fx luke rotj saber from ebay. It came fully packaged and sealed as new (as I believe it is). So much to my annoyance the on/off switch appears to be stuck in the on position. I have put batteries in and everything works fine as you would expect, apart from the fact that I cannot shut it off while the batteries are in! I have googled about stuck switch problems to no avail so wonder if this is not a common problem, can anyone offer any suggestions about how to resolve the situation outside of brute force as I don't really want to break it and I assume it shouldn't require brute force to operate?!

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Question for the group / Jedi

My son was doing a lil ... 'Diagnostics' on my FXs and he noticed with the Jedi Knight Obi Wan ( Clone Wars ) FX when he changed the batteries he would tap the hilt and the saber would ignite and you'd see the light go up the hilt. He would attempt to twirl it and it began going on and off. I believe it may have been doing that since I first bought it.

Anyone know what that is ...

Great advice from everyone. I also have a question though. Anyone happen to know why when I turn on my rots ani saber, it makes swinging noises while held in place as well as it takes an insanely hard hit to make clashing sound? Also, it seems like the clash sounds seem more frequent while holding closer to the very bottom than if I hold above the power switch. Just put new energizers in maybe 20 mins before making this post.

I just got a Mace Windu FX and about a quarter the way up the blade the LEDs aren't lighting up. Everything else works fine on it. What can I do?

My RoTJ Luke saber no longer turns on.  A few days ago it was rapidly turning on and off crazy so I figured it was battery time.  I've since replaced the batteries and it doesn't turn on at all.  What can i do to fix this?

It could be the switch wires. When doing both of my conversions on a MR Anakin and BS Luke. I've noticed the switch wires were very poor and broke off with little-to-no force.

Hey guys, hopping you could help out.
I've had an Anakin's Force FX Lightsaber for about 10 years now and it's been working perfectly until now.
Even with new batteries in, when I turn it on, nothing happens. No light, no sound, nothing.
Wondering if anyone can help.
Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I've got the Master replicas Force fx Darth Vader ANH lightsaber (6*AA battery 2003 version). It lights up and down, but the sound effects have suddenly stopped working.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone has any advise on how I can trouble shoot the problem and get the sound working again. Do I need to replace the battery and speaker pack?

Many thanks

Hi I just registered to this site in desperation looking for a solution to a problem I'm having. I just bought a new Force FX Darth Vader lightsaber and when I turn it on all it does is repeatedly play clashing/crashing sounds without stopping, regardless of how much or how little the saber is moving. I've tried different batteries and moving the blade in any way or hitting it doesn't seem to change anything. I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas on what's going on or what I should do.

My 2010 Hasbro Anakin Skywalker Ep. 3 removable blade fx lightsaber, the light and the sound barely work. The light will be extremely dim and won't power all the way up the blade. After 2-3 seconds after ignition, it will just stop working and then won't turn back on. At first I thought it may have been a connection problem with the battery pack but I don't think that's what's up anymore. Any ideas on this?

I picked up a Black Series Darth Vader Force FX Lightsaber which only made a quick electronic sounding clicking sound when the switch was pressed and the blade didn't light up. I put in brand new Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries and the only improvement was the sound changed from a quick click to two to three buzzing sounds whenever the switch is activated without the blade igniting. I've tried removing the batteries and reseating them but nothing changed. I'm convinced that some repair is needed. Can anybody help?

I have been looking through posts here and haven’t found one to help me out. I just got a new kit fisto fx saber, and it’s working pretty good. After battling some of my friends I noticed that if another saber hits mind hard enough, it will turn off. No sounds, no visual, just goes blank. Once I turn it off and back on again it will be fine but every time it has a hard collision it turns off. Any knowledge/help I could get?

You might be jarring or dislodging one of the battery connections.  If you insert a few layers of aluminium foil (as a shim) between the battery connections and wrap some tape around the battery module, so the cells don't shift, it might help.
