16mm Anti Vandal Latching Blue Ring Switch issue.
« on: June 04, 2012, 06:45:29 PM »
Been working on a full MHS saber and I am having an issue with the power switch. As the title explains I have a 16mm Anti Vandal Latching Blue Ring Switch. When it receives power it acts on its now, accessing the menu and such on its own. After fiddling with it and finding that no connections that I can see are touching, I am at all loss. Any advice would be a great help.

sounds like you've got a momentary switch and your board is set for latching.  If it's a PC/CF board, change the switch to another value.  if it's a MR board, you'll need a polulu board to make your mom switch act like a latching, or you'll need a latching AV.

I actually have a Ultrasound 2.5 Board. I thought I could have it wired wrong....

ah, do a search for the "switch-bounce" issue.  You need a cap i think...but darnit my memory is el sucko.  But you need to put a cap on the switch itself

edit!

, you need a monolithic ceramic capacitor (either 50 WVDC or 100 WVDC, it doesn't matter which) with a value of 0.1 uF.

actually...the 2.5 I think didn't have that issue, it was the 2.0.  You might check to make sure some solder isn't bridging a contact anywhere, make sure there's nothing touching the body of the switch, make sure the switch if it's in the hilt isn't making an unwanted contact somewheres

Thank you very much for the advice. I really hope I don't have to put more money into this saber. I will post with updates.

Ultrasound boards use momentary switches only. Using a latching switch will not work.
Use one of these http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/16mm-Anti-Vandal-Short-Momentary-Blue-Ring-Switch-P616.aspx

Just to clarify, momentary switches don't stay down when pressed... If that is such the case, The one I have is momentary.

Edit- After looking at my order a momentary is what I have.

I would suggest doing what Gil advised,  and look for a short in the switch wiring,  most likely cause is bridging between the switch pads.

After doing such, I think there may be a problem with the switch itself. No contacts are touching or jumping and it only has the issue with when the switch is attached.
