MR/ Hasbro Voltage?
« on: April 08, 2012, 07:39:42 PM »
I've been reading around on here trying to find a straight forward answer and cant seem to find one.  i'm working on my first MR board saber and was trying to find the forward voltage coming off the board to figure out resistors and such.  i can't seem to find any real info on how much power the board puts out though, ive seen anywhere from 850mAh to 1500mAh claims and no real voltage info. anybody able to help me out?

i'm running it off a single 3.7v 18650 and the LED is a DX RGB with the green for the main blade and i'm not sure if im making it one of my color change sabers (red and green) or if i want to give it an Aux Flash using Skottsabers board or not. (opinions?) is the reason for lack of concrete info because of the power from the board varies alot? or am i just not searching very well?

any help appreciated  :)

MR boards can operate 3.7V-5V. The standard output I have noted is equal to the amount of voltage you give the board, meaning I haven't measured much of a voltage drop.

The current output depends on the battery setup, board you use, etc... Those finer points I am not as sure of, as I haven't used as many of these boards. I can say, with a 3.7V setup and MR Yoda board, I regularly get 900-1000ish mah.

Hope that helps.

so i should be getting roughly 3.7v out if i put 3.7v in? sounds workable. not sure i could power all 3 dies with that though.

thanks  :)

Sorry to hijack, but just wondering how that would go powering a Luxeon Rebel Star Amber (which expects 700ma).

If we assume the lowend of that 900-1000mA (I'm using crappy batteries, 3xAAA's) would that be ok, or will anything more than the expected 700mA cook the LED?

LEDs are destroyed mainly by voltage, not current. You can overdrive LEDs by several hundred ma and not affect the performance by a noticeable amount.

1V to many though, and your LEDs will be toasted and ruined.

For instance, I regularly overdrive red P4 LEDs at 1500ma. They still work great and will do so for many years to come.

However, I supplied another p4 red with 0.5v more than the maximum rating, and it died.

True enough...I'm running a Ledengin 5w blue direct drive (old school way-no resistor) with a single 18650 in a throw together sinktube stunt.  The hilt gets warm (as expected) but the ledengin runs just fine.
