Honestly? I've found that the TCSS Trustfire 14500s have higher runtimes than the AW 14670s. Not by much, but you can squeeze maybe an extra 10-15 mins out of them

I have never, ever found that.  Also the AWs have a significantly higher discharge rate, where Trustfire 14500s will pop the PCB protection with certain FoC™ set ups.

I will add my .02 about those being good batteries.  I have used them in quite a few builds.  I have never used the AW 14650s though so I cant compare them.

I have used these as well,  excellent batteries.  They may be rated for only 940mAh,  but they are accurately rated,  not overrated like the Trustfire 14500's.

Fine,
so when they are identical with the Panasonic UR14650 cells, I hope I would be able to get some.
Thank you for the informations.

The US shops (www.batteryxxx.com) are pretty useless for Europeans, because the shipping costs for one battery are between 75.- and 140.- USD ???
FedEx and UPS only, because of some Government Acts I didnīt understand  :P

Please name european sources, if s. o. find some.

Contacted a partner company today which is building our Li-Ion batteries.

The CEO gave me the following informations:

They have and use these UR14650P cells and the Panasonic/Sanyo batteries are identical.
Actually the correct brand would be Panasonic, but in some areas they are still labelled with their old Sanyo brand, which is established there.

The bad news these cells are not meant to discharge constantly with more than 1C (~1A).
The 1800 mA is the peak value.
So they will age more quickly and loose capacity after a few recharge cycles.
But as we normally donīt use the same pack for 8 hours everyday, it should be ok.

It is correct, that they are unprotected, as they are meant to be industrial cells to build packs.

Unfortunately it is restricted by law in Germany to sell unprotected cells to private customers  :o
There are some small flashlight shops who sell unprotected 18650s, 18500s and similar, but except the Trustfires absolutely no 14650.

And a professional company like the above mentioned would never sell these to private customers, as they could loose some licenses, which would easily ruin them.

So the search is going on.

Guess i've gotten lucky, though I don't run at full power, I run at 1A to save battery life at the cons.

Turnigy 1S 15C 1200mAh round lipos are a pretty close match for 14650s, though they need soldering

To each his own.  Not worth the risk to me as there are plenty of Li Ion solutions.

To each his own.  Not worth the risk to me as there are plenty of Li Ion solutions.

The bottom line is that they pose no more risk than "standard" Li-ion as both battery types share chemical make-up.  Before the advent of smart chargers it was an issue because the polymer switch would melt causing instability/fire/explosion (of the battery itself) if the battery was overcharged (this was also the case with Li-ions, BTW).  That is no longer an issue and since the battery chemistry is exactly the same, it really is more about simply making sure that accurate information is out there.  I don't expect everyone to keep up with everything, but if you guys remember, I researched this FULLY 6 months ago and even spoke with the manufacturer (Tenergy) to dispel some conflicting google/bing information about it.  I use them all the time now and have had no more issue with them than I have with Li-ion.  That said, everyone is indeed free to use whatever solution they see fit and you are 100% correct in that there are more than adequate Li-ion solutions to take care of whatever people want to do.
