Screw rumble motors... If you mount the new 2watt speaker in a deep set config and seal it right it will shake the saber right out of your hand... No rumble motors needed... 8)

QFT actually.  I have one saber with a shroud that I had to add additional screws too to hold it down due to a superbass 2w speaker.  Having tried out various useages, I do think having one set to rumble on a blast/clash/lockup is pretty sweet.  on all the time though you generally hear the whine of the motor which is a little annoying.

Awesome info guys. I've decided not to put in a rumble motor since this will be my first build and I don't know anything about how to set one up.

Thanks so much for all your input!

Personally I really like rumble motors, especially when hooked off the crystal output of Igniter(tm) as you can have it run low during pluse and turn it up for the clash, blaster block and lockup, giving you feedback for those events (like an XBox controller does). However, I mostly use those shaftless ones that come in new cellphones these days; they aren't as strong but don't come with a lot of drawbacks that the standard motors do. It is all opinion though, as the bass speaker mounted correctly does give you vibrations too (but then that's why I like the motor, with it at the top and the speaker at the bottom there are two sources of vibration).

The motors are a pain, they often burn out, they can cause false triggering, and they are probably the number one cause of repairs in a saber that has one.  So, I am with GG! :D

Couldn't have said it better myself.  Also adds like an hour of extra work to get the settings massaged correctly

So if rumble motors on sabers often malfunction, how come for years and years I've never had a problem with my Playstation dual shock controllers? Are they a different set up?

I'm generally confused and have no clue, don't mean to sound rude.

Probably because those motors don't constantly run the entire time you're using the controller,  unlike the ones installed in sabers.  A saber also usually (and I use the term loosely) take more impact punishment than a video game controller.

Makes sense, cheers :)

Agreed! MH upgraded my Mk6 Hero with a CF5 and a 2 watt speaker and this thing is so loud, it actually vibrates in your hand like a saber humming with power!

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but, I've googled a lot but haven't found any specifications on xbox/ps2 rumble motors, anyone knows? :) Want some in my blasters, but seems like a bad idea if you don't know voltage etc :P

Please delete this post if not relevant :)

you'd be surprised how easy it is if you just ask a couple questions :)
and check out voltage requirements for motors... and voltage outage on cards :)

Xbox controllers have large rumble motors. They would be waaaaay too big for saber purposes. The voltage requirements would be in the optimal range in that they can run off of just two AA batteries.

Sure, can understand that, still would be cool to have in my blasters though :)

Got two from my 1st gen Xbox controllers, one big as you say, and a small one. I think the small one would fit the blaster perfectly, if I only knew the specs for it :) Tried it on 3V just now (2AA) and it worked really good. :)

(again sorry if this is out of topic, please delete if so :) )

I love the rumble motor in my Corran Horn, so I'm for them when done right. I'd leave it to the smith's discretion on whether it is right for a certain build, but my experience has been a positive one.
