I agree with that sentiment, design a single hilt, that can be doubled up with a coupler or whose end cap can be swapped out with a different rear end that can be used for a quick disconnect of the two things.  The additional coupler could be sold as an accessory.  That way if someone only wants, or can only afford one they can buy one.  If they have the cash flow (as a few people would have for this particular saber) They can buy 2 to complete the set/staff.

I think you'd be alienating the majority here though.  I could be wrong with my limited view of smithing but I can't see two single hilts being cheaper than a full staff with a single card.  I'm willing to assume that most members who want an accurate Maul would only be able to afford one half even if they wanted a full one.  Hence my reason for suggesting a full staff with one card.  Honestly I'd love it if we could have an affordable (for most) dual hilt Maul with two PC or CF that worked together....but I don't see it as a viable option for more than a few individuals.

The reality is that a full hilt will already be almost the price of two sabers so why not make it split then so people can have options. If you can afford both, more power to you. If you can't afford the full hilt, at least there is an option of half a hilt (which is still movie accurate from a certain point of view)

Respecfully I disagree, with only one sound card you're removing quite a bit of cost associated of the extra parts, wiring and build design.

Actually, I can imagine it pretty hard to do an install yourself if the hilt is actually a one long solid piece.

I don't think machining one long solid piece is an option any smith would want.  It would make electronics install a huge pain compared to a multi-piece design.

I actually like this idea however not being a smith by any degree I'd prefer the ability to send in for an upgrade.  If a smith could design the build so that would be upgradeable at a later time that could definitely interest those who want to have the best of both worlds (single staff plus battle-damaged single) but can't afford the extra cost of the second soundboard and install cost. 

Maybe we should reset this poll and add that as an option?  Luminari, does this sound like a possible feature?

At the risk of going a tiny bit off topic, my personal favourite Maul hilt is the EU one from the Old Wounds chapter of the Visionaries comic set between RotS & ANH. The one where Maul is resurrected with a robotic lower torso. The saber is similar to the Ventress staff in shape crossed with external wiring conduits like some of the concept art Sith saber staffs from ToR & with a pair of emitter blades at each end. This maybe your Lucky Year mate as I have been getting this saber drawn up and reworking it since September Last Year.
Have been trying to keep it quite till I got the tooling made up.
Sent emails out just this morning for custom tooling I need to do a prototype.
Thou I call my design "DM2 Vipers" ATM.

I don't have any insider info however I think there is a possibility of this run coming to fruition.  It may be quite awhile out but I see this happening eventually.

I'd love this thing either way it's decided to be made, but I would love to see a red crystal chamber like Yoda's chassis. I know we wouldn't see it, but it does hold things nice and tidy.

but the odd thing is, i know some people hate the Maul hilt. they think its ugly. but i dont see that, i like the way it looks.

i guess everyone has different taste right? variety is the spice of lfe.
