Q doest the shadow box light up?
they would be even nicer if you could say light the chassis area but without powering the saber, mabey a little led behind the chassis

no it does not, the only way to "light it up" is turning on the saber, like yoda does in some of his photos.
placing a small led right behind the open chamber is a nice idea, but then you have a wire at the back of the shadow box going down the wall 

Just set the idle led to flash in the bottom crystal or the drilled optic line.  That is what I do sometimes.
That way the crystal chamber is on steady or flashing (whichever you prefer) without the main led being activated and draining the battery.
Minimum drain on the batteries and still looks awesome.

I don't know if yours are the same since mine was done about 1 year ago, but you can give it a try.

Edit:   Looks like pads 1&2 are the powergate and drilled optic lines.

All previous Power gat elines ran to pads 1 and 2

the new cf5 10.0 I changed it to 2 and 3 for some of them.
Toggling through the sound fonts will tell you which is which as the first font is always bank1
