the Arbitrator--a Larbel Obi-TPM conversion
« on: September 16, 2011, 11:44:07 AM »
the ARBITRATOR

I wanted to do this in a modular/negotiator style.  The CT wheel is the only thing that needs to be removed to gain access to the board, card, charge port, wiring, everything.  Having everything contained/limited to the grip sections allows the entire emitter section to be broken down as well as the pommel for "maintenance".

SPECS

Larbel Obi-TPM el ready #4
Petit Crouton v1.5--Lightmeat font at the moment
7.4v 900mah battery pack

Showing it's modular-ness:  there's a slight pause when I'm revealing the chamber as I was listening for crying bebe  ::)

Very cool Gil!

Can you post the details on the fiber optic cable you're using? I've experimented with some and it isn't turning out as well as hoped.

This was indeed done myself.

I've got 2 different gauge fiber optic wires going through the chamber.  They come in various thickness and whether it's end-glow or side-glow, so depending on what you want the fibers to do would dictate which type to use.  I used the end-glow type and if I want it to show IN the tube I just crimp small sections of it to "crack" it, which the light catches and illuminates.

The toughest part is keeping the brightness in the fiber throughout many bends.  Too small of fiber and you can only get 2, maybe 3 bends out of it before the light coming out the tip is really dim.

Here's some shots of the chamber pre-installed:

Gil, stop making me want an obi.  I just found the one you did for JYN and I had to wipe the drool off of my keyboard.

Really nice work - the crystal chamber has a kind of cybernetic-organic look to me with the fiber-optic wires - the 'heart' of the saber, if you like - and the way it opens up/breaks down is classy and original. Very impressed and inspired, thanks for sharing ;)

Awesome work you've showing us.
This saber looks incredible.
Normally you cannot take a saber apart like that without encounter problems.
On you saber even dismantalled all trhe parts look sturdy by themself and keep working, and the crystal chamber,... man that looks stunning.

You deliver awesome work buddy.

Purdy! I have a Larbel I need converted someday and with seeing everyone's idea(s), I can see why this saber is so sought out. Mine came with scratches on it, but maybe it can be polished or something when it's being converted by the professionals.
