The Time Lost Aeon (Olive Oil Weathering Project)
« on: July 19, 2011, 03:35:57 AM »
This project has been over a month in the making but it finally begins!

Utilizing Eastern57's excellent olive oil weathering guide http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?6292-Weathering-tutorial-(w-olive-oil) I turned my US Aeon hilt into something amazing!

I sanded down the entire hilt with 100 grit sandpaper (as suggested in the weathering guide), and put two layers of olive oil on the hilt.  I was originally going to do the pommel and the hilt separately but was dissuaded by Mikkyo of the Sith. 30 minutes at 550 degrees in the oven bore results i couldn't have been happier with...no second coat was needed! :D

Now I am torn as to which LED color I should use...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  More pics and updates to come as this project progresses.  Thanks for looking!

Amber, it would go stunningly well with the aged and ancient rustic look of the hilt.

I think a cyan would compliment that finish beautifully. Nice work!

And along those lines perhaps a pyrestone orange?  I can just imagine the saber looking like the blade and the hilt were the same color.  What colors are you torn between?

Click on the link for Sith'ari in my signature. Cyan and copper go very well together!

Ducos Rossis is trying to trade a bin 1 cyan in the TF for two P4 greens, that is the best cyan available (the rebel in Sith'ari is 2nd IMPO)

Either an amber or a yellow. I did cyan and red in past SmOk sabers and although they work, I plan to do another one in yellow.

Nice work, Kett!

Currently torn between Cyan, Green, or Amber. I am curious about Pyrestone Orange though...not sure if it will be an even color though...

That is one AWESOME saber Industrial Action! :D Man, I wish I had some P4 greens ^\^; I've personally never owned a Bin 1 Cyan though it would accent the saber very well.

Thank you Caine! I gotta say you were the initial inspiration for doing this kind of weathering, I'm glad it turned out so well on my first try! ^\^

I like how it turned out, very even and neat.  Good Job!

And I agree that cyan or a yellowy green would look great. ;)

Thank you very much eastern57!  That means a quite a bit coming from the man who made the weathering guide ^\^  Perhaps a white P4 and some Lee filters could produce that yellowy green :)

I get the first three lines....the rest just makes me go  ???. Are you trying to tell him that if he mixes a red and green with a resistor that he will make a profit?  :D

Anyways, I saw the pics on Facebook, Kett and I must say it looks very good. Olive oil weathering FTW.

Gotta do another Spice Mines saber soon....maybe a clone of V1.

Green K2.  No one really uses them anymore, but those are very yellow-green.  Like dill pickle juice yellow-green.
