Even Piell <--- spoilers
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:27:36 AM »
So, since 2008 the Coruscant Nights series told us of Master Piell's death. His Wookiepedia page (undergoing major changes) even says he survived order 66. And now, Uncle George decides "no" he was killed during the clone wars in our latest episode.

What?!?

This is yet another major change that the Clone Wars cartoon decided to thrust upon the fan base.

I am not happy about it.

Me neither,  as I have the entire Coruscant Nights series,  and thought it was a well written story.   ::)

I actually thoght it was a fitting, and cool send off, for a otherwise un-important character....    Its not like you hear many people saying Even Piell is my favorite Jedi.....    I didn't even know who he was before this episode, I had to wookiepedia him....   LOL...   He got a much cooler death than Kit Kisto, who is actually one of my favorites...  At least his death meant something....

Guess I'll have to do my research on his other death, and see which one I like better...   ;)   I do see your point, but its not the first time Lucas had changed stuff around though...  We should be used to it at this point....

You see Evan in Ep 2 but not in EP 3, so that had already given me the idea he was terminated during the clone wars.  I don't know anything about coruscant nights or if that was/is an official GL storyline or not, so I enjoyed getting to see Evan how we did.

Anybody find it strange that Evan made Capt Tarkin memorize half of the code before they got captured, yet he tells Ahsoka not to tell ANYBODY but the council the info, and Tarkin somehow had orders to be debriefed by the chancellor.  HUH???  ???   If Tarkin memorized it during battle and then got captured, how did he get orders to bring that info to the chancellor, and why would Evan tell Ahsoka to only give it to the Jedi council.  That was odd.

It's all foreshadow. Tarkin (Grand Moff in Ep. 4) is Sideous' little pawn. It's all Sideous' corrupiton. Evan Peill and the council are not. Sideous is trying to work the system like a true Sith Lord.

Huh?  Unless Palpatine had foreseen specific events like Evan and Tarkin getting captured, I still don't see how Tarkin got orders different than the Jedi that was in charge of the codes.  Tarkin only got the codes because Evan didn't want to have the entire thing.

That would mean Palpatine would have seen that specific battle and what Evan would have done, and then given Tarkin orders to bring him the info.  But Tarkin would have been like  ??? ??? "why would I have codes at all, why is a Jedi going to give me half the code??"  Makes no sense for Tarkin to have any knowledge beforehand of this unless I missed something in part 1 of this threesome.

I didn't think, even in the dark side, that the future could be foreseen to such minute exactitudes such as the above.  Palpatine seeing Tarkin as useful in the future and making him his pet NOW makes sense, but being able to see such a specific event seems out of the realm of what the force allowed force-users to see.

And foreshadow in essence implies hinting at a future event.  There wasn't much of that going on except the inkling that Tarkin and Anakin would be working together again in the future.  Plus, in the grand scheme of the series, those hyperspace lane codes to the heart of the republic didn't seem to hav e any bearing in how events played out in the end.

I mean that Palpatine is simply trying to get whatever information on the jedi as he can. He doesn't know what the information is, so he thinks it'll help him with his Galactic Take-Over.

Remember that Tarkin talks to Ani about cultivating a personal relationship with the Chancellor [which Ani already had]. One can certainly imagine an ambitious naval officer wanting to cultivate 'friends in high places' but whats in it for Palpatine? Maybe he didn't see in the Force exactly what would transpire in detail but maybe he got an inkling it would be good to get to know this young officer Tarkin...cultivate his loyalty. And when Even Piell was captured and fearing the strategically vital hyperspace direct route to Coruscant could fall into Separatist hands its quite sensible he 'compartmentalized' the dangerous secret by dividing it so no one person alone could expose it, keeping half to himself and logically giving half to the other highest ranking officer Tarkin. Who else could he have told; a Clone Trooper?

I agree that he wouldnt have told Tarkin to give it to the Chancellor, he might have suggested giving it to the Council or not but his main concern was it not get into Sep hands only Republic hands and he probably didnt know Tarkin was a new 'friend' of Palpatine. I think it was Tarkin himself who decided to give it only to the Chancellor as a way of showing loyalty thus currying favour with his powerful new 'friend' [which certainly paid off for Tarkin later eh?]. When Ahsoka approached Piell dying he would certainly tell another Jedi to report the data to the High Council who was highest authority in her chain of command. And she did. Tarkin however because of his political instincts chose to tell only the Chancellor...the Jedi Council who met them couldnt openly refuse to allow that since they were officially 'on the same side' so had to let Tarkin go and they probably would rationalize it as being safer that no one had both parts of the secret anyway. Surely Palpatine could never give the Council his half since the Jedi could then have attacked the Sep fleets directly using the same route in reverse. And when he didn't the Council probably were disinclined to give him theirs without a show of reciprocity. Stalemate.

Except their was ONE other way that Palpatine/Sidious could get the other half of the data if NOT from the Council; from Ahsoka herself. And since we know from the opening scenes of ROTS that the Separatists DID eventually get that data and attack Coruscant then somehow, involuntarily or perhaps voluntarily if she 'Falls', Ahsoka must have given it to them sometime between these episodes and the end of the CW series.

These episodes both set up Tarkin for his future role in ANH and also justifies Ahsoka's introduction into the mythos as the vital link that enables the Dark Lords to get the strategic advantage they need to lead a Separatist fleet to Coruscant to begin their Revenge Of The Sith.

Thiese episodes are likely all about major foreshadowing imo and a bit of strategic analysis shows how it can 'fit' perfectly into the canon events.

Nice Onli-won, I was thinking quite similarily.

Although, I had not considered Ahsoka giving up the information, I had imagined Palpy just hired Cad Bane again to break into the Jedi Temple and steal the codes that way.  Or another bounty hunter for that matter, but that's how I figured the code came into play.

After that first incursion I'd imagine the Council would keep something as critical as above-top-secret direct hyperspace routes to Coruscant more closely guarded than the U.S. does its nuclear launch codes LOL...it might be much easier for him to 'steal' Ahsoka. But having Cad Bane play some part in it somehow could certainly work and make his character have a more important role in galactic events too so I like your thinking on Bane.

I concur 100% with Onli-Wan. Bane needs to come back................it'd also be cool if teenage Boba broke out of prison.
