How do you carry your blades?
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:54:48 PM »
Hi folks, I'm new to the forum and wasn't entirely sure where to put this post, so Mods, feel free to move it.

One of the great points about the Ultrasabers is that the blades are removable for costuming purposes.  However, I still want to be able to have the blade with me when I go to Cons for duelling and photos.  My friend suggested carry the blades in a duffle bag, but that seems like overkill.

Has anyone found a comfortable and convenient way to carry their blades without it messing with their costumes?

My cloak has an inner pocket long enough to hold blades.

It's almost limitless on how you can carry the blades. Just need some imagination or ingenuity. I either carry the blades with me and just twirl them or tuck them outide my costume on my obi. May not be the most comfortable, but I'm always whipping out my blades to take pics all the time anyways.

I've done the inside the inside-the-cloak thing too.  That works pretty well, but you need to have some heavy duty stitching; there's a lot of force when you take the blade out.

Thanks for the responses guys, very helpful.

My cloak has an inner pocket long enough to hold blades.

Does that cause problems when you try and sit down?  I was thinking about some way to strap them innocuously to my back, but even then I think they're too long to be able to sit comfortably.

I've done the inside the inside-the-cloak thing too.  That works pretty well, but you need to have some heavy duty stitching; there's a lot of force when you take the blade out.

I assume by this you mean that you have both blade and hilt in there, and you draw and activate it from concealment to simulate an "authentic" lightsaber feel?  Does it work well for you?

I go to a lot of gaming cons where one is up and down all day so being able to sit comfortably needs to be a consideration.  Any advice would be welcome.

Actually, no, just the blade.  You could do a hilt and blade setup, but I generally just wear the hilt on my belt.

yeah really the pocket inside the cloack really wont cause to much issue, Mine is set so  its in the part of the cloack that hangs free anyways when I sit, so that its a bit more rigid then standard in most cases it just looks like its caught on the chair. If you were perhaps a shorter person that may cause you some issues, but generally its the way people do it
