I appreciate it Alex, go for it if ya like and PM me... although I will say... there have ALWAYS been "better" solutions than the Regal 28mm. Even when I researched them, there were (at the time--a few) better speakers... but it was more about quantity/price/physical depth/dynamic range + response, etc. Just like there have "always" been better & brighter LEDs out there, it's just... who wants to pay $40 for an LED on a REGULAR basis?! lol Sure, sure... for a casual and/or one-time or two-time project, SURE!!
Anyhow, today, here in 2011... oh CERTAINLY we have more speaker solutions. However, some of these solutions still are somewhat "thick" / have more depth and/or additional structure(s) helping things out. "iPod" style speakers would be a good example. I've experimented with those since ~2009 or so I think. Sometimes they help, sometimes they don't. And certainly, the better ones are GENERALLY at higher costs. Generally.
Personally... I never use anything <36mm with CF, and now that Obsidian is here, I'd probably CONSIDER using 28mm speakers... but... hmm--probably not.

For old-school FX-board driven sabers... oh heck yeah--they pretty much all have 28mm. Wait... well, ok, a FEW have this 40mm ones...
In fact, at certain points, both of the Flange III (dark & light) sabers had 45mm (!) speakers in them. Which can't fit into most custom sabers. I don't recall what they have right now, but I do know that Flange IV has a "cheap" (cost-wise) 40mm speaker in there. Again, I was just testing, and... it sounds... "good". Not great... but loud + "good". I think that 40mm speaker was like $0.50 or something like that (not bought "in bulk", either of course).
It is though kind of too bad that the quality is (apparently??) dropping/dropped with Regal 28mm speakers... although it's hard to say, since... again--*I* personally have never had any issues with mine. But yup... I HAVE heard recently of some issues. From Yoda... from Erv... from you (hehe)... and a few others. Oh well... definitely lots of choice out there!!
