Nano biscotte problem
« on: May 05, 2013, 03:24:51 PM »
Hey guys I'm hoping someone here may have some insight with an issue I'm having.

Essentially I have wired up a nano biscotte with a basic setup and no indication LED. Everything runs fine and everything but it seems that as soon as I install the LED for the blade I only get a few seconds of play before it reboots. I've looked over my wiring and nothing is out of place from what I'm gathering.

My set up is basic, no resistor on a white Seoul P4 (I've been told that the whites don't require one so I'm thinking that may be the issue), my board and battery is on a chassis.

I have thought about cutting my splices and redoing them but I wanted to check to see if anyone has a similar problem.

Is your battery fully charged?  I had my Biscotte hiccup on me like this a few times with a Rebel star.  Charged the battery fully and the problem stopped.  Just my experience, not sure if this is your issue or not . . .

Kind Regards,

what kind of power supply are you using for the board? 3.2V 14500 800mAh etc...

It could be that the white LED is drawing too much power from the board.

I haven't made a build with a nano biscotte yet, I'm waiting for mine to turn up but I'm sure you will get more help once you post a bit more info about your input :)

You may also need to look to see if you need a resistor.  Check your Voltage on your LED -  I seem to remember that certain P4s require resistors with your typical 14500 3.7 V. Nano setup (if thats what your are running).

I'm using a 14500 3.7 trustfire battery from ultrasabers as I can no longer order my batteries from TCSS. I left the battery on the charger and I'll put it in the hilt in the morning. I will check my voltage as well and toss in a resistor.

it's the classic symptom that your battery protection circuit is triggered due to an excess of current. The battery could be simply discharged or the Vf of your LED quite low for a white.

What you have been told about the white P4 is sort of wrong as It depends™ and saying that white don't need a resistor cannot be a rule of the thumb. I keep recommending to measure the actual Vf of the LED and add a resistor or adjust the drive if it remains > 80%.

Thanks for the help guys. I've lowered the drive on the board itself and it all seems to be working in order. I'll do a few more tests before posting and handing it off to the intended owner.

Much appreciated on everything guys.

you're very welcome, happy to see that there's no "bug" or anything and that it's been sorted out !  :)
