MHS Customizer

WWW
« Reply #30 on: July 10, 2008, 12:54:34 PM »

I am looking to customize the hilts of a couple of the Dark Initiates I purchased from Ultra sabers. Would it be possible to use any of the screw on emitters from TCSS? I am kinda diggin' the style 11 and 4 emitters. Also, are there any parts from TCSS you guys can suggest that would really bring out the hilt in the Dark Initiate? I don't want to purchase anything not knowing if it'll fit properly.  Wink

Well...

None of those will work for a Dark initiate...  Besides, you can't have aluminum threading into PVC and have a durable product.

What I would recommend is using Sink tube and screws to make accent pieces that you mount directly to the hilt.

I am not trying to be a party-pooper here, but the Dark initiate is NOT designed to be compatible with the MHS.

Uh when was the conversation ever turned that way? I have never stated the the Dark initiate is a small saber.  The ones I got fit my hands just fine...

I think you have gotten confused.  The measurement of the Dark Initiate is from the emitter to pommel. Sure, if you measure straight across and not along the CURVE, you will get 8 inches.. it ia actually a bit longer if you measure ALONG the curve.  Wink

Electrical conduit Elbow.

Okay but can i have a list of the other peices and if the led, battery/ wires, switches and other electronics from tcss would work(not the blade)?

also, would a Thomas & Betts 3/4 In., 45-Degree, Standard Radius Elbow, Belled, Schedule 40 work?            never mind, so i need a 1" or 1-1/2" right?

He probably wants to make his own, which isn't real nice in The UltraSabers section.  Just go to the hardware store and pick some stuff up. OR,  buy one from Ultra!

You can't reallly build one cheaper than he sells them.  Ultra is able to buy parts in large quantities so he can get them for less than you can.  Also,  asking how to build something someone else sells could be considered rude..... Undecided

There are plenty of tutorials between the Fx boards and the TCSS boards.  If you want to build your own Custom saber, I suggest you look there.  Otherwise, don't expect a manufacturer to freely give away trade secrets for their product....Even IF it is easy enough to work out through reverse engineering.
Sony doesn't put up instructions on how to make your own PS3... wouldn't make any sense.  However, you can BUY one and always take a stab at figuring it out for yourself.
Besides, it's way more fun that way.  I've learned so much from just reading the posts on this board, and am finally starting to make my own sabers.  They are pale in comparison to such seasoned masters as Ultra, Yoda, Do-Clo, DT and others, but the entire process is far more rewarding and more of an adventure in the end.

As a side note supporting Tyrannus's statement:  I'm 25 years old, and the Dark initiate fits most comfortably in my hands.  It also makes a most interesting shoto piece when practicing Jar Kai (I hope that's how it's spelled).  The angled hilt allows for some more unconventional twists and turns in a saber duel.  Plus it just looks Bada$%.  I've done several mods to my initiate, and have found that I like the plain jane "as it comes in the box" style.  The only thing I would change on mine is the switch.  I got one before Ultra started using those nifty recessed switches, so I've had to adjust my offhand spinning style to avoid accidental shut offs.  One of these days, when I get the guts, I'm going to move the switch to the pommel for a cleaner body.

Ultra, do you sell those recessed switches by themselves?  If not, where might one obtain a few?  I believe I got one of the last runs of dark initiates on clearance before you changed the design, and have wanted to put a better switch on for a while.  TCSS is currently out of stock.  Sad

Peace,
Silkvein
