The tabard slippage issue is one of the reasons I rock a Darth Tyranus style costume. No tabards. I do like the idea of using hooks on the tabards for my jedi outfits.

Tyranus' Costume is more of an "Old" Republic style, which is what I am going for.

I may just leave out tabbards on my costume for just that reason.

Personally,  I prefer to sew them to the outer tunic,  and sew the tunic shut in the front,  to make it easier to get into.  It becomes one big,  pull-over shirt:

The tabbards are sewn to the tunic at the shoulder as well:

It's much easier to get dressed,  and assures everything layers properly....nothing looks worse than a Jedi with criss-crossed tabbards. ::)

Do you just sew the inner part of the tabbard, and where the belt goes right?

Right,  just across where the obi covers the stiches,  and on the inside seam at the shoulder,  right at the seam for the neck trim on the tunic.  I added a clickable link in my above post for a larger image for the shoulder seam pic.  You can also see more of it here:

My Anakin leather tabbards are secured by velcro. The cloth tabbards underneath the leather ones are secured by velcro as well, onto my outer tunic with velcro.

My costume doesn't need to be washed often like regular cloth.

Also it may sound funny but you know them little hooks that womens bra's have? From what I can tell them are the best to use cause it holds the tabards in place but still has free range of movment.

Iam gonna use them on my costume that way I dont get that tabards held by velcro look when you move around.

Small snaps along the inner tabbars would look good too. Bra claps ae usually called hook and eye,but they don't usually come individually. They come in a strip.like 4 down and 5 across

DV-

The best solution I can suggest to you is button snaps.

My seamstress turned me on to them when my costumes were made for C4.

When properly stitched in, the buttons will resist virtually all slippage issues; there are very few select instances that will cause a snap to dislodge.

Also consider this observation: with opposing buttons on the shoulder seams (i.e. the 'innie' on one shoulder, the 'outie' on the other... sorry, I couldn't think of the appropriate terms...), it's guaranteed that the correct tabbard will be on the correct shoulder.

PM/email me for any specific questions.

YEah the tabbard slippage thing is common to everyones jedi, dark jedi style costumes.

With the leather/pleather type tabards would be hard to add snaps to and not have them show on the other side. the velcro, well if you could find a way to hide the stiching that wuld be great. I would use the side of the velcro thats the hook part the rough side on the tabards. the cloth side on the tunics but I would try to find velcro thats in the same color area as the rest of the costume, that way there less of a visability.

Its all about functionality and sleakness.

It's actually easier than you think, Alias...

My solution for that is a folded & stitched edge on both sides of the pleather/leather tabbard.  The stitching to secure the fastening device of choice can be applied to the underfold of the tabbard edge.  Hand stiching should be used here to prevent going thru the top of the edge. When hand-sttched correctly, the button/velco/etc will not be seen.

just for clarity: velcro has two sides to it, the "hook" side, and the "fuzzy" side. (for lack of better descriptors)

ok well the tunic on that anakin costume from costumebay is "fuzzy" enough that the the velcro 'hooks' stick straight to the tunic

--> all I did was add a strip of 'peel and stick' velcro to the underside of the tabbards.  ("hook" side ONLY)

the tabbards now "stick" to the tunic with no "fuzzy" velcro sewn on to the tunic.  (in fact, no modification to the tunic at all)

-=====-

short answer: just 'peel&stick' the velcro "hooks" to the underside of the tabbards and you're done.
no stitching; no fasteners from ladies undergarments; no fuss.   ;)
