*Pulls what hair is left on head and bites lip*

As a student of Kendo, the common mis-conception of Kendo being Japanese fencing, it can be irritating. No offence to anyone here. It's just an itchy understanding. :P

However, yes, having a good grasp of Martial Arts and learning to weild a Lightsaber have a common "feel". As with Lightsaber Forms, what is adaptable and comfortable for you body with encourage your spirit, thus strengthening your road to handling a Lightsaber. 8)

Notice the title of the book:

http://www.amazon.com/Kendo-Japanese-Fencing-Tsunami-Various/dp/6305434786

From a fellow practitioner of the art, that also refers to it as:  Japanese Fencing

 :D

Could go on to site other references to the term "Japanese fencing" by those in the style, but I think it's moot.

Point being, what irritates on is immaterial to another.  For the longest time, the martial arts were called by other names.  Then the names were "Americanized."

How many times I've referred to various Asian martial arts as "boxing" by their own people, for one example.

Touche! ;D Interesting.....I guess I had my :o popped open on this one. It's interesting that every culture has a point of view to the name of the art form that it represents.

I'd like to get this video, except I don't have a VCR anymore. :(
To see Legendary Master Nakayama Hakudo still aive would be nice. It's like seeng Bruce Lee teaching his Jeet-Kune Do in America. BTW, I was reading on that Escrima and was wondering if it was the stick fighting that was implemented by Jeff Speakman in The Perfect Weapon, which was a half-decent martial art film.

Yes Cin, the style of Escrima/Arnis that I studied is modeled after Jeff Speakman's "A Perfect Weapon".

The reason for this:   :D

He was a 3rd or 4th degree black belt (shame I can't remember exactly) in my style of American Kenpo Karate when I started.  I met him at one of the seminars in Philadelphia.  My teacher, Mr. Gary Ronemus, as well as other black belts in the system like Huck Palanas, Joe Palanzo, and others, taught us Escrima fighting.

Let me tell you that my instructor, Mr. Gary Ronemus and eventually I, could do the same as Speakman...his famous 15 strikes in 3 seconds.   Each strike was a solid, injury delivering strike .  Many people think that to go that fast, one can't generate the power needed to actually injure an opponent.  Usually,  only one student makes the mistake of challenging that thought, and once you demonstrate it once, you don't have to anymore  :)

The funny thing about The Perfect Weapon....it was told to me when I was but a young Yellow belt watching that movie, that they actually had to play that part of the movie at near 1/2 speed because Mr. Speakman was moving SO quickly that the camera couldn't keep up with his striking patterns.

LOL...

Anything is possible!

Early last year I had no idea I would have a DVD going out around the world for people to use to learn spins.  Things happen without notice.

Iaido also translates well into wielding a FX. I began training in it about 16 yrs. ago and have been hooked ever since. I remember picking up a FX for the first time at Bordrs about three yrs. ago.  The next thing I knew I did a gaeshi cut in fornt of customer service. My girlfiend pretended she didn't know me and walked away but the clerk behind the counter asked me if I could show him how to do that. :) Iaido's esoteric nature also lends itself to the nature of the the Jedi IMO.

Master Qui-Gon Jinn implemented some Iaido draws against the battle droids. Same with Darth Vader against the unarmed Trade Federation leaders. Maybe Obi-Wan against Doctor Evazan and Ponda Baba. But that looked more like Kenobi was putting a fire out with a garden hose. ;)

Qui-Gon did have alot of Iai flavor. Actually, I think his swordpay is the most "real" of all the Jedi, it's very direct. Plus I love that HARD backfist he delovered to Darth Maul. ;D

Yah, that was nice. That was the most relatable fight scene in all of the prequels......Not much in SE however mostly all blood, sweat and tears.  ;D
