heavily modified SF redeemer
« on: July 23, 2016, 06:57:52 PM »
so i had a SF redeemer lying around my house to i decided to gut it and weather it and give it a ANH Obi look and here is the weathering result the clamp on in the picture is a parks one but i have pre ordered a Romans one with
the graflex logo on it that should be coming in some time mid next month

i still need to do some weathering with some birch wood super blue on the emitter but its almost done then itll be on the the sound install

http//:

http//:

if any one has any thoughts feel free

super blue didnt torn out how i wanted so i removed the bluing and polished the emitter again to get it ready for some aluminium black

saber up date so ive been slowly working on the weathering and ive made a few changes to the brass thin neck using some brass black and after treating it putting on the polishing wheel i have with some green oxide paste to even out the finish and give it a bit of shine as well

http//:

i also removed the old finish that was on the emitter in the shots above and repeated the same process but with aluminium black instead

http//:

still waiting on the Romans props graflex clamp though but it should be here in a few short weeks

once again if any one has any thoughts or tips on weathering with chemicals feels free to shoot them my way

It looks really good! I have been looking around for a suitable Obi Wan hilt and what I have found so far are; Parksabers MK-III, Roman Props MK-I, Roman Props Inception, SaberForges Redeemer and also a company on etsy, called TaiSaberCraft. I have preferred the first two, basically due to the grenade section that looks authentic. Your weathering looks very good and suddenly all of these options seem fairly good. I have question; what was the starting point for your weathering? Was it the “clean” version? I am refining my led-string building skills, but once I have a “perfect” blade, I will have to decide on the hilt, but the weathering can clearly make an important difference!

i started out clean with a standard redeemer and polished it then cleaned it with metal cleaner. then i used a combination of hot an cold bluing and blacking to get the finish that i have know and then sealed it with a clear coat

It looks great! You really managed to provide character to the hilt.

This looks great!  This a build I've got to do in the future. Im thinking of adding some rust when I get around to building one.

Very nice weathering! I'd lighten up the color on the blade emitter somewhat though, it's too dark IMO, but overall looks really nice!
