Saving override.txt with RICE Problem
« on: September 13, 2014, 10:40:53 PM »
Each time I use RICE for CF7 to make changes to the settings in override.txt after I save to override.txt error messages are reported in RICE. When I examine the override.txt file on the SD card there are entries like shown below. Notice the duplicate combo2 entry tacked onto the combo1 and the second sleep parameter. There is a first sleep parameter in the section above ## Motion. Also I removed the override vol parameter to have separate volume control on fonts and tracks, et rice put it back in. Also my Glyph configurations were reset to the default configurations.

combo3=scccCsleep=50000

This was my configured override.txt file before I went back in with RICE, clicked Read config and changed was hswing=50 from 35.

How do I edit with RICE without getting my settings all wiped out and have erroneous entries added?

One other strange thing is the menuvol parameter. Even though I have it set to 3, each time I read the config with RICE it sets it to 4 in the override tab in RICE. Is this because I have no vol parameter in the override.txt file, but separate vol parameters in each font config file?

late reply sorry
your issue with the combo and the file in general is that you possibly had one time with RICE where you didn't read the settings from the board. Next time you read the settings, you have incorrect strings read from the file, so in your case, the best is to edit that file manually to obtain a normally looking file.

but reading this again, you have errors when reading the settings via RICE ? could you please post a screen copy of the max window showing those errors ?

for the menuvol (which is supposed to be only in the override file), I'll double check, there's possibly a bug in the code but I'd like to trouble shoot the rest first.

Here are the screen shots

Read Config all looks clean

After saving override.txt with error. The unknown param co will be a combo entry tacked onto another like in my first post. It always does this it seems.

Reload override.txt after saving and getting above unknown param error.

it's like it's missing something during the RICE transfer or it doesn't save it correctly. The glyph issue however rings a bell, but I believe that was a RICE bug.
next question : when did you get that CF and have you tried with the most recent version of RICE from the website ?

I just received the cf7 in my sith pro qui saber from jqsabers. I believe he was in contact with you about it just prior to shipping it to me because of a buzz noise that plays at boot time. I downloaded the rice for cf7 about 2 weeks ago thus it's recent, unless a new version just came out.

Since the glyphs is a known issue I there's no work arround.
Thanks

Could the combo entries in the override.txt file problem have anything to do with the actual combo wav files  are  numbered combo1, combo2, combo3, combo4 while the override.txt entries start at combo0 and go to combo3?

Any update on what is causing the alterations in the override.txt file? I can't use the convenience of RICE, since I must remove the SD card after using RICE, to manually edit the text file to correct the unwanted changes to the text file.

To sum up the above, since my entries are long and confusing.
1. I cannot set individual volume levels to specific fonts or the tracks folder, since saving the override.txt file in RICE always sets the vol parameter, which then overrides the entry in the specific font or tracks config file.

2. Extra combo entries are created on the same line as the actual 4 entries.

3. The glyph configurations are altered upon saving the override.txt file.

Thanks.

I recall that bug during the dev, but I'm sure I've fixed it. I'll have a look tomorrow morning as I have a dev session. There's the possibility the board you got was one of those sent to JQ during the dev of the v7.
As the result is an issue on the SD card itself, it means that it is due to the file saving process and formatting of the contents, so your board might need to be flashed.

To start, where are you located ?

finally had some time this morning. Tested with my bench v7 with the latest version of the firmware and the RICE app that is on the website, not having the problem, override is saved just fine.

we therefore need to flash your board, see my location question above
