Open Source sound board idea
« on: May 01, 2016, 08:43:56 AM »
To all the electronic enthusiast over here so I've just begun designing a sound board with the specs below and plan to make it open source, I'd just like some feedback if you guys would be interested and some additional ideas that I can put in:

Specific Electronics that will probably be used:
- LTC3114-1
- LT3476
- TAS2521
- STM32F205RGT6 (might change to STM32405RGT6 for more powa)
- MPU-9250

The above basically means:
- 2.8V to 16V input range, so power sources ranging from built in Li ions to USB to large 12V Pb-acid protosaber installments to crystals can be used
- 4x1.5A independent independently controlled LED channels (means color mixing), up to 96% efficiency
- 32-bit ARM Core with 1MB flash 128KB ram @ 120MHz = lots of raw processing power for motion processing i guess?
- USB programmable/debuggable/configurable
- 24-bit sound @ 192KHz @ 2W sample rate is possible
- 3 module/9 axis sensor @ 8000 samples/s
- Tons of leftover IO and I2C for PLIs, module expansion etc.

The simplest explanation:
- It's bright, sounds crisp and has lots of features you probably will never use

Those are the hardware specs, software wise...well I'll leave it to the community to brew up some SaberOS or something, tho honestly I don't even know if I can cram all that stuff onto a PCB the size of 2 fingers X_X This is my second prop project btw

I wish you luck. The specs seem like they may be massive overkill, though.

Sounds like an awesome board.
If prototypes become available, I would consider swapping out the teensy+prop shield in my current build for this board, and I could potentially help with the software development.

I like the 16V input. it means we can use this lighting - which I hear needs 10V

Sounds exciting and looks to be high end in capability/components compared with other current options.

It'd be great to see  +2 channels to allow for 6 segment LED string capability (either on the board or as a small add on/daughter board so not taking up space and cost for those who don't need it).

I look forward to seeing more!
