3d Holographic Projector Technology
« on: August 07, 2014, 01:52:27 AM »
So this might be a laughable thought but I'm going to float it out there for the fun of it.

Has anyone seen the new 3D Holographic Projector technology that has been designed and produced by the Ostendo Technologies company (sounds a bit close to Abstergo, but heyho)?

They claim to have produced a 3D projector the size of a Tic-Tac that will be available for phones as early as 2015.
They claim that this will enable R2-D2 style projections to be utilised by anything that can house and power the tiny projector.

Here is an article:

3D hologram projector could give same capabilities as R2-D2 from Star Wars |

There are more credible and in depth hits out there, but this one specifically mentions Star Wars, so I thought it more appropriate.

At the moment the projections are only in monochrome, but they predict full colour by the release in 2015.

With this in mind does anyone think that this technology could be utilised for the saber building community, eventually.

Fully realised holographic blade projection controlled by one of 'Erv's sound boards?

Just a thought, as I say maybe a silly idea, but thought I'd open for discussion.
I would appreciate the thoughts of those who have more technical expertise.

Looking forward to your replies  :)

From my humble point of view I am very sceptical about so said "holograms" as 99% are just vision illusion using parallax tricks and a medium like glass or smoke.

I said 99% but 1% is that:

And indeed a fake holographic blade would be nice except for fight lol
good topic anyway thanks for starting it Adi9678
We are all looking at the stars, we are Homo-sapiens-Stellaris.
when I see other's sabers I might think they have build them like a Tardis, bigger inside than oustide. Unlike mines huhu.

Thanks for the input Iamhomostellaris.

Good point about lack of duelling potential, that would be a mark against.

I like the idea of holographic firework displays though, as suggested on the YouTube clip.

Hehe another little thought that made me happy;

I'd love to see holographic projections as part of the selection menu.
So when you have sound bites for certain selections, especially on the CF's, you could have an accompanying projection, say Leia ("....Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope"), Chancellor Palpatine ("execute order 66") or a holo chess piece throwing another.

I think that would be kind of cool.
