Rey Graflex TFA
« on: September 30, 2016, 09:32:09 AM »
Hey saber fan ,people what have you

so i recently came across some nice reference images for a lot of the props used in TFA on the prop shops website and is you all want to you call can look into it and read into it but they basically state that what they produce are exactly what they used in the film and what not
so i looked over the photos of Rey's Graflex and ive made some adjustment to make it look a little more like the screen used prop
the main thing that was added was an off color to the clamp

here are some pictures below of how it turned out i still have a few for things that need to be added to make it as cannon as i want it to be but here is what i have to far enjoy

as always feel free to ask questions and leave any feed back

Nice! The color looks spot on to the screengrab of when Rey sees it in the box for the first time.  Did you just let it soak  for a period of time, or do multiple short dippings?  Im going to try it.. Thanks

in this picture the color is a little to strong but the color has stated to fade a bit to on trying to hit it with a clear coat to keep it from fading further ill be posting more once my parts come to finish it the color is from one dip in the coffee i heated the clamp cover and dipped it in hot coffee and left it in there for about 8 hours

Very nice touches to the design. I think people forget how distinctive the graflex can look in every movie.

This definitely looks great, and I'm going to take your idea of soaking my clamp in coffee also. I just wanted to bother you with another few questions first.. Aside from the clamp, did you also soak the lever, screw and the 2 rectangular parts that the pin/screw goes through? Also, you mentioned clear coat. The coffee did not "stain" the material? Did it come off when you handled it? Also, did you use a matte or gloss clear coat??  Sorry for all the questions, I just really don't have a lot of extra clamps laying around to try out different stuff on, LOL, and any tips are appreciated. Really gives it a screen accurate look.

no problem at all
well like i said earlier what i stained was the satin less steel clamp cover from wannawanga  and nothing else in the photos that i looked at it appeared that only the clamp was the off color and not the bars and the lever also im pretty sure that the coffee wouldn't have an effect on aluminium the same way is does on steel i think it has to do with the acidity of the coffee and the structure of steel

as for it rubbing of no it does not i tried to remove it to see if it would come off by using several chemicals but it wouldn't budge i only applied the clear coat because i though at first that it was fading but it wasn't lol i would say if your going to do a clear coat id do a thin gloss ive since removed the clear coat because i did not like the little carbon scoring pattern i did with the black paint so it was removed so i can redo it if i do redo a clear coat itll only be to presert the carbon build up (black paint)

well i think i covered every thing lol if anything comes to mind feel free to ask
